Showtime CIA drama Homeland was one of the best-reviewed and decorated dramas of 2011, and after a long wait and many award nominations, the show is coming back next month, with lots of vague but rather violent moments in the trailer. When we last left the counterterrorism crew, Sgt. Nicholas Brody had just dispatched sniper Tom Walker and CIA officer Carrie Mathison, about to undergo shock therapy, just remembered some shocking revelations.
In the first brief look, we get a whole lot of blink-and-you-missed-it jump cuts, bloodied corpses, torture scenes, explosions and clear threats on the life of Sgt. Brody, now running for office. "If everything you had was taken away and you had nothing left to lose, what length would you go to for the one idea that pulled you through?" the ominous, action-man voiceover accompanying the clips asks "And how dangerous would you be?"
A week before the second season of Homeland even begins, the first season is up for a slew of Emmy awards, including acting nods for Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, Outstanding Writing and Directing nods for the pilot episode and Outstanding Drama Series, for which it faces stiff competition from Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey and Boardwalk Empire, but given its previous successes, the show might have a shot.
Season 2 premieres September 30th. In the meantime, here’s a teaser to get your premium-cable-drama appetite going.
