Jimmy Kimmel Tweets From Tsunami Zone Following Earthquake

The 8.9 magnitude earthquake that shook Japan this morning triggered tsunami warnings as far as Hawaii and the West Coast of the U.S. Late night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel, just so happened to be vacationing in French Polynesia when the quake struck, and he immediately began tweeting updates from the island. His first tweet “Suddenly, relaxing on an island in the South Pacific isn’t so relaxing anymore. Good thing I brought my aqua stilts,” was met with angry replies from followers who didn’t realize that he wasn’t joking—for once. “Not kidding. That’s where I am,” he wrote. “…and I’ll accept the apologies from everyone who called me an asshole and said “fuck you” in advance.”

Over the next few hours, Kimmel continued to update his followers with a series of tweets, as he began to sound more and more worried:

“I am on an island in French Polynesia, glued to CNN”

“thanks to those who sent good wishes – this is crazy”

“thanks again for the concern – I am now worried others will worry if I don’t tweet – but if I don’t, don’t.”

In his final two tsunami-related tweets, he responded to a user who questioned how scared he was on a scale of 1-10, “a good solid 7. on a small island, with no high ground,” he replied. Kimmel was finally evacuated from the island early this morning. “we are evacuating the island. dogspeed.”
