The last season of Lena Dunham’s Girls left us wondering just which way Hannah would go. Would she accept her offer to attend a writing program in Iowa? Would she stay miserable in New York and try to mend her rocky relationship with Adam?
And with a new trailer for Season 4 of the HBO show, we see that Hannah still grappling with her romantic woes, and delightfully with the aid of the always wonderful Gaby Hoffmann. As for the rest of the cast, Allison Williams’ Marnie looks to be pressing forward with her bizarre affair / musical partnership, Zosia Mamet’s Shoshanna appears to be flailing and heading back with Ray, and Jemima Kirke is spouting her usual faux wisdom.
Last season’s focus on Hannah and Adam’s relationship was the show’s core strength, and by far the most developed and interesting storyline of the show. And as Adam Driver has proved himself to be a tremendous talent, acting opposite him seems to elevate Dunham (and Hannah) to her best possible performance. However, the peripheral characters’ story arcs felt a bit neglected and the show did suffer for it. But still, we have faith in Dunham and are certainly looking forward to the new season of Girls, beginning January 11th at 9pm.
