Fashion, Supermodels, Celebs, and Collectors Love Jeff Koons

He’s made a name for himself becoming one of the most successful living American artist, selling his shiny works for millions of dollars, and is a discussion for bitter art students and fashion lovers alike. Jeff Koons has had collaboration with H&M — something that is regularly reserved for fashion houses like Alexander Wang or superstars like David Beckham. Jeff sealed the deal when he caught the attention of Lady Gaga’s lil’ monsters after designing her album cover for ArtPop.

The artist’s name is becoming omnipresent in pop culture, so it only makes sense that Koons is nearly a celeb himself. See below to further explore the phenomenon.

Alexa Chung is the It-est It Girl

Photo: Joe Schildhorn/BFAnyc.com

Being an It Girl takes a lot of work. There’s traveling, partying, wearing gifted clothing, and mass attempts on being downright fabulous. It would be hard being Alexa Chung, said no one, nowhere. The British beauty air kisses Karl Lagerfeld’s cheeks regularly and sits front row at nearly every major fashion show.

She’s a chain-smoker and author of a book simply titled “It”. I think that needs no explaining as to why. Alexa is trotting behind personal favorite Chloe Sevigny on becoming the end all be all It Girl. See why, below.

Art Basel FOMO: When Non-Arty People Attend Art Fairs

Photo: Billy Farrell/BFAnyc.com

Every once and awhile an event will happen that will engulf your Instagram feed whether you like it or not. Basically the two weeks of Coachella and the days of Art Basel Miami take the cake on the obnoxious photo posts that create a major fear of missing out for those not involved. That little Facebook status saying “Miami” has a much more powerful effect if it’s between the 3rd and 7th of December.

Welcome to America, where every event, regardless of the subject matter, is turned into a fanfare of celebrities and brand powerhouses. Case in point, the fabulous array of people in attendance at the Basel events in Miami. In honor of making you even more green-eyed over Art Basel and its eccentric famous attendees, we’ve collected our favorite party pupils.

“IT” Girl Herself Alexa Chung is Tommy Hilfiger’s New Guest Editor

Image via Jesse Lirola/BFAnyc.com

Alexa Chung is like fashion magic. Every outfit she wears is catalogued in the minds of countless girls as inimitable, effortless, perfection. She’s put her stamp of approval, and even designed for a number of fashion collabs (eyeko eyeliner for that signature Chung cateye to some capsule collections with Madewell, to name a few, and she even has her own tome, which is literally called “IT,” perhaps a not-so-subtle nod to her own status.

Now, from October to January she’ll be putting her knack for styling to use as both model and guest editor for Tommy Hilfiger. Each month will mean the release of another miniature lookbook–and they look amazing. Of the collaboration, Chung told WWD, “To be embraced by such a behemoth of an American fashion brand is a huge honor.”

With her eye, the clothes look just as she wants them to–a navy tuxedo-esque one-piece is given the ultimate stamp of approval: “You know when you see another girl across the room at a party,” Chung says, “and think, ‘Wow, she nailed looking chic but without trying too hard.’ Well now you can too. Go forth and prosper.” So basically, Alexa herself. Still, we will gladly accept Chung’s help in dressing more like Chung.

Seeing Stars at Tommy Hilfiger

Face tattoos and preppy Tommy Hilfiger? Not exactly a combo that usually comes to mind, but the star-spangled faces at the spring show were pretty fitting and cute — especially considering the Sgt. Pepper theme of the stage.

To offset the whimsical starry-eyed make-up at Tommy Hilfiger, hairstylist Eugene Souleiman created a low-maintenance look which went perfectly with the new SS15 collection.

“We did kind of the girlfriend of a famous rock musician in the ’60s,” he said of the inspiration. Here’s how to get this easy look below:

1. Working with freshly washed hair, create a center part that only goes back 2-3 inches.

2. Take 1-inch sections of hair on either side of the face and use Wella hairspray to stick them down on either side of eyes. Backstage, paper napkins and clips were used to get that slight kink in the hair.

3. Apply Wella Ocean Spritz to the ends of the hair for a little texture.

Man Up and Get Sexy with Suiting

By the beautiful August we’re having, you’d be forgiven for forgetting to get your fall shopping in order. But here’s a hint to get you started: No cooler weather wardrobe would be complete without simple suiting– think of Helmut Newton’s models wearing Le Smoking — is there anything chicer?

Sure, you can show up in black, but borrowing a few more details from the boys’ll draw even more eyes. Herringbone and houndstooth looked good this season on the men at Saint Laurent and Valentino, and it’ll look just as good on you in this iteration from Tommy Hilfiger.

A print this subtle’ll draw all the right eyes just a little closer, so make sure you’re ready for the extra interest.

NYFW Day 2: Print Play at NAHM, Steampunk at Pamela Love

Fashion Week Friday kicked off early with two stellar shows at Milk Studios. First, I caught the NAHM show, designed by Nary Manivong and Ally Hilfiger—Tommy Hilfiger’s daughter. The legendary Mr. Hilfiger was there, too, and genuinely beaming like a proud father at his daughter’s school recital. But this collection wasn’t child’s play by any means—in fact, it just might be NAHM’s best range yet. All-over egyptian and floral prints had the cult capacity of a Prada collection, and the matching wallpaper was a genius touch.

Next, I swung by the Pamela Love presentation, which featured four models decked out in unbuttoned overalls (a welcomed throwback) and drenched in more of the designer’s luxurious armor. While the collection definitely included Love’s signature tribal edge, the show’s fog-fueled setting and the subtle futuristic touches in the jewelry felt very steampunk, in the best way possible. Highlights included the stone-set chokers and geometric bibs:

Tommy Hilfiger Gave Nicki Minaj a Crazy-Pricey Rolex for Being His Met Gala Date

What does a ridiculously wealthy fashion designer who has everything give to a ridiculously wealthy pop star who has everything? A $37,000 Rolex watch, obviously, which is exactly what Tommy Hilfiger did at last night’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala. Before Nicki Minaj even served her guest duties, the famed design star handed her a box enclosed with the coveted Rolex Oyster 41 watch in Everose gold, which she posted on Twitter. The former BlackBook cover star‘s Tweet was accompanied by "Oh gee, thx Tommy," which isn’t exactly how I’d reply if someone gifted me someone’s salary to wear on my wrist. (It would be more like: "OMG, seriously? For me?! Like, this isn’t a joke? I don’t have to give it back, ever? I can’t breath…I can’t breath. Really? Oh, Mr. Hilfiger, thank you! Thank you a thousand times over!")

nicki2

But this kind of stuff happens to stars all the time, so I get the nonchalance. Hey, it was worth a Tweet, at least. Our friends at The Viviant also note that Zooey Deschanel, Lily Aldridge and her husband Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon were also at Hilfiger’s Met Gala table that night. Wonder if they received the same love? (I really can’t picture Deschanel sporting a Rolex, for some reason.)
