10 Spring Wines and the Perfect Lipsticks to Wear While Sipping

Lipstick: We’ve discussed it before (namely, the best shades to last through a makeout sesh, and the colors you need to get through winter holiday drinks)…But with a new season, comes a new conversation. With the spring comes a new color palette…and as the temperatures rise, we’re celebrating with lighter, brighter lipstick shades. We’re not just looking for pretty pinks here — oh no — we made sure to pair wine with a host of the season’s best shades that also just happen to last through a glass or two. We consulted wine experts, and husband-and-wife team, Josh and Becca Shapiro, of Flatiron Wines, for their expert opinion on the wine side of things.

1. Sonia Kashuk Ultra Luxe Lip Gloss in Sparkling Sugar pairs nicely with prosecco. Keep things balanced: with sugar on your lips, stick with crisp, dry bubbles in your glass. Drink With: Sommariva Prosecco di Conegliano Brut, NV

iMakeup: Smart Gadgets For a Shorter Routine

Like all tech fixations, I adore lovely things that are efficient, easy to use, and make my life easier. In my bag, for example, my smart phone sidles up to my collection of smartly packaged beauty products—both help me cut down on the amount of crap I have lug around all day. And while my high-efficiency makeup can’t video-chat my sister or give me directions to the bar, it’s easy to use in a pinch and has saved me from a serious mess or two. Here, the must-have products that have simplified my routine.

Geek Out For: Lorac Double Feature Concealer/Highlighter Why it’s Smart: Concealer is a pain, but for some, it’s a necessity. I know people that have spent half their lives trying to perfect the use of concealer, implementing techniques that will make it appear natural and fresh rather than cakey or dry. Lorac Double Feature concealer includes a concealing stick for extra coverage, a blender ball that smooths the concealer for a more even look, and liquid highlighter, which brightens under eyes and creates the illusion of a more natural finish. For: Great for concealer pros and newbies, and anyone who needs a quick fix.

Geek Out For: Jane Iredale Sugar and Butter Lip Exfoliator and Plumper Why it’s Smart: I always forget how important it is to exfoliate your lips until I am wearing a shade of rouge that shows off a flaky pout. Sure, I ‘brush’ my lips like the pros suggest, but those sessions are few and far between. This product is a double-sided answer to my ineptitude: every time I pick it up, I am reminded to tend to my lips. One side is a stick of exfoliating turbinado sugar, with macadamia and jojoba seed oil that scrapes and softens. The other side is a beeswax and shea butter-infused plumping lip shade. For: Forgetful minds, those who want to get the exfoliating out of the way even if they’ve left the house without a toothbrush.

Geek Out For: ShaveMate Diva Why it’s Smart: I hate the name, but I hate traveling with a can of shaving cream even more. The Diva holds shaving cream in the handle—enough for 10 uses. And it’s only $10 for a pack of three, which is actually on the cheap side for disposables these days. For: Chronic travelers that like to pack light.

Geek Out For: Sonia Kashuk Lashify Mascara Why it’s Smart: The thing that takes up most of my morning routine is digging around the bottom of my makeup case for my eyeliner. Sonia Kashuk puts it all together—eyeliner, and mascara—to cut down on the digging time when you’re in the middle of doing your eye makeup. For: Liner-addicts, unorganized makeup junkies, busy bees who need midday touch-ups.
