Your Daily Guide To Trending Topics

Every day there are some topics that are trending. Since many of them don’t make sense, we provide easy contextualization. Also, this way, you won’t actually have to know anything about anything.

Gabrielle Giffords Seat

Yahoo! users are interested in what’s happening in Arizona with the congressional seat of Gabrielle Giffords, who resigned in January. Giffords, of course, was shot during a crazed gunman’s rampage outside of a Tuscon grocery store in 2011. Ron Barber, a former Giffords aide, won the seat and will serve out the remainder of his old boss’ term.

New Obama Ad

It’s an unusually political morning for the folks at Yahoo! who are also searching for information on a new television commercial that President Obama’s camp has released a new ad in Virginia that attacks his opponent Mitt Romney’s record as governor of Massachusetts. The ad, which includes a voiceover saying, ““First in debt. Forty-seventh in job creation. That’s Romney economics,” will also air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Check it out below.

Kevin Durant

Oklahoma City Thunder player Durant is topping Google’s list of trending searches thanks to his team’s 105-94 win over Miami in the first game of the NBA finals. "Well, those guys, they came out on fire. They were passing the ball well, knocking down shots. We just wanted to continue to keep playing," Durant said. "It’s a long game, and every time our coach was just saying play harder, play harder, and that’s what we did." Go forth and talk basketball.

Bear 911 Call

Bing users are looking for something that’s not nearly as cute as it sounds. This isn’t about precocious little animals figuring out how to use phones, but about an Alaska man who called for emergency assistance after being mauled by a bear and chased up a tree. Ben Radakovich, 30, was hurt by the female brown bear, who attacked him on a trail south of Anchorage, but later told Good Morning America, ““I’m just grateful that I got through it and that I’m here to enjoy another day basically.”

Important things, like JPMorgan Chase CEO and his upcoming Congressional testimony, are trending on Twitter today. But not nearly as high people’s excuses to end their relationships.
