Next Week’s NY Happenings: Northside Festival, Sud De France Festival, Bushwick Restaurant Week

NOW: Magnetic Northside

Brooklyn’s annual explosion of music and film is back, taking over scores of spots across the borough’s north end. You can catch live music at the likes of CameoTrophy, and The Gutter. Son Volt is at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, The Gories are at Brooklyn Bowl, and The Jazz Butcher plays Spike Hill. And that’s just Saturday night! The festival continues through Thursday, June 20th, with plenty more chances to soak up the spirit of Brooklyn. Start tonight with the reunion of Black Flag’s 1979 lineup at Warsaw.

SUNDAY: Donna Party

Former Roberta’s chef Max Sussman joins the Sud de France Festival with a four-course afternoon at Williamsburg’s Donna. Corned lamb cassoulet will be the highlight of the Languedoc-Roussillon inspirations, with wine pairings and live jazz to complement.

MONDAY: Dine In Bushwick

Snubbed by Brooklyn Restaurant Week, Bushwick is coming back strong. This week you can check out thirty of the neighborhood’s finest without paying full price. Mama Joy’s and 983 are offering discounts and specialty items. At Heavy Woods and Pine Box Rock Shop, the third beer’s free. Cab over with Uber, and Bushwick will spring for your fare, too.

TONIGHT (Monday): High On The Hog
The world’s greatest ham comes from the Pata Negra pigs that gorge on acorns in Spanish forests. If you’ve never tried Jamón Ibérico de Bellota, stop by Boqueria Flatiron tonight, where the tastings are free. (A sherry pairing is not a bad idea.)

SUNDAY: Aye, There’s The Rub-A-Grub
Bed-Stuy’s Do or Dine teams up with Sound Liberation Front for a reprise of last year’s Rub-A-Grub backyard bash. Rebel With a Culinary Cause chef Justin Warner will be laying out three rounds of food and drink, beginning with bottomless Bloody Marys, and finishing with barbecue. Ali Shaheed Muhammad of the band A Tribe Called Quest highlights the DJ array. Around 10pm, the scene shifts to One Last Shag for the after-party, but no worries—you can sleep in Monday.

FRIDAY: The Cocktail Classic Shakes and Stirs Citywide
The fourth Manhattan Cocktail Classic drops this weekend, celebrating mixology across four boroughs, five nights, and dozens of venues. Catch a buzz and some knowledge as Middle Branch hosts an Ode to Eau, Booker and Dax show off techniques and technology, and Huckleberry Bar serves spirits made with Brooklyn pride. There’s plenty more on offer, including an Industry Invitational at the Andaz Fifth Avenue; get on the highball as tickets are going fast.

Greg Bresnitz and the Snacky Tunes crew return for another series of summer barbecues. This year’s inaugural blowout sees Brooklyn Brewery peeps serving Middle Eastern bites and Summer Ales at Good Co.

FRIDAY: Rock & LoHo At Downtown Music Festival
The Lower East Side’s music cup runneth over as Downtown Records brings a second year of the Downtown Music Festival. The venues are a greatest-hits package of below-Houston spots. Mercury Lounge hosts Teengirl Fantasy, Cake Shop has Beach Fossils and Trash Talk, and nine different acts will take the stage at Tammany Hall. Even swank event space Capitale is in on the groove, hosting L.A.’s Black Hippy. The spaces are all intimate, so get your tickets quick.

THURSDAY: Taste Of The Lower East Side
