In the new video for the “Ganja Burn” single – from her latest album Queen – Nicki Minaj plays a royal empress crawling through the sands of a fiery desert, surrounded by warriors / highly muscular dancers.
Directed by Mert & Marcus, the video follows a biblical sort of story, beginning by telling the tale of a queen who lets raiders destroy her empire before rising up in revenge. It culminates with Minaj posing just like the album cover.
She’s previously released videos for “Bed (feat. Ariana Grande),” “Chun-Li,” and “Barbie Tingz.”
Nicki Minaj has released a series of clips from her upcoming documentary Making of Queen, which, as one might deduce, is about the behind-the-scenes process of creating her fourth studio album, Queen, set for release August 10.
In the first clip, we get to see Minaj receiving a massage in her pink-soaked studio as she works on the creation of (now-certified-Gold) hit single “Chun-Li:”
And we get a taste of the true creative process in this third clip, as Minaj muses on a Burberry trench she once had, and incorporates the garment into her lyrics, furiously scribbling out verses in a black hoodie as her name glows in pink neon behind her:
In a cut-for-time SNL sketch from this past weekend, Nicki Minaj joins Tina Fey, Aidy Bryant, and Kate McKinnon to rap a verse on their parody Haim-style song.
“Friendship Song” sees the three comedy queens as singing sisters, crooning about the familial bonds that tie best friends together. Nicki joins in to rap about supporting her friends unconditionally, and it’s amazing. Take a look.
Haim actually responded to the video online, freaking out when they saw what SNL had created.
After a long hiatus, Nicki is about to return to the charts with two new songs. The rap (already) legend has been teasing a countdown of sorts all week and then deleting the tweets; but now, it’s confirmed: “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li” will both drop on Thursday at 1PM EST.
“Barbie Tingz” is dedicated to her fans, who call themselves ‘Barbies,’ while “Chun-Li” is named after a character from the film Street Fighter:
Minaj has not released an album in four years, since 2014’s The Pinkprint, and not released solo music since last year’s one-offs “No Frauds,” “Changed It,” and “Regret In Your Tears.” The new songs could be a harbinger of the forthcoming fourth Nicki studio album, and the end of the social media blackout she began in December.
Despite the fact that Cardi B’s album hasn’t even been out seven days, don’t go looking for a feud: Cardi has assured fans in a Beats 1interview that any beef is fabricated.
