The Return of the Blonde Supers + Sasha, Natalia, & Gemma’s Best Campaigns of All Time

Sasha Pivovarova in the Saint Laurent resort 2014 campaign shot by Hedi Slimane

There was, embarrassingly, an actual squawk emitted from this editor when my eyes caught Gemma Ward stomping down the spring 2015 Prada runway in Miuccia‘s socks + high, high heels.

Gemma’s presence had been missed since 2008, when the ethereal, fair-haired beauty with the most delicate bone structure retired from the fashion industry altogether.

It’s easy to remember models in groups; Christy Turlington + Linda Evangelista + Naomi Campbell, Joan Smalls + Karlie Kloss + Cara Delevingne, and then there’s Gemma Ward + Natalia Vodianova + Sasha Pivovarova.

All three of the latter grouping are starring in major campaigns this season. For Gemma, it’s Prada photographed by Steven Meisel. For Sasha, it’s Balenciaga. Most recently announced is Natalia for Stella McCartney.

Natalia Vodianova Poses with Her One-Month Old Son, Nude and Breastfeeding

And we say, YES. This isn’t a gratuitous photo, it’s motherhood, and it’s been taken by photographer Paolo Roversi as a gift for Vodianova’s boyfriend and son Maxim’s father, Antoine Arnault. It’s family, it’s love, it’s natural, it’s beautiful.

Below her photo she wrote,

Happy birthday baby from Paolo, Maxim and I. Love you @antoinearnault

She’s not the first public woman to publish photos of herself breastfeeding her child. Women from Jerry Hall to super Gisele to singer Pink have all done the same, and we say, more power to ’em. Click through to see a few below.

This Stuart Weitzman ‘Million Dollar Shoe’ Costs $595

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Stuart Weitzman’s iconic "Million Dollar Shoe" first worn by actress Laura Harring at the 2002 Academy Awards, the footwear designer revamped the sandal to look like a million bucks, but costs a fraction of the price. The Steven Meisel-shot ad for the shoe, which rolls out just in time for the Oscars, features model Natalie Vodianova.

As noted by WWD, the 2012 edition of the shoe is called the "Millionairess" and is "detailed with Swarovski crystal snaps and a crystal tear-drop." The sandal costs a cool $595 and will be available at Stuart Weitzman boutique nationwide this month.

Why Don’t You Go As A Louis Vuitton Bag?

In case you didn’t get your fill of Halloween festivities this past weekend, since the ghoulish night falls on a Thursday the costumes and candies last almost two weeks this year. If you’re still searching for dress-up inspiration or need another transformational persona to add to your roster, look to the sittings and parties that are more fantasy than fashion. Photographers like Miles Aldridge, Steven Klein, and David LaChapelle have your back.

Why don’t you go as a Louis Vuitton bag? Grab a stencil and some body confidence and get to work. Lil’ Kim photographed by David LaChapelle.

image-3You could always go as the creepy, pure girl. Steven Klein photographs Kate Moss as Good Kate for W.

 image-4

Bad Kate is an option as well. Here, Moss plays the demon. Pearlescent teeth, mounds of accessories, and horns should do the trick.

image-5Toss the conical bras and lace gloves and try for a different Madonna. Alana Zimmer photographed by Miles Aldridge. For her sickly look, grab the Moroccan oil and some lavender blush.

image-3Always an option: grab a couture Margiela mask and go as Kanye West.

image-4 If pretty is more your thing, go as Natalie Vodianova’s Alice as shot by Annie Leibovitz. A blue dress, some maryjanes, a headband, and a smattering of small furniture should call the adventure to mind.

image-5Reference more than a few historical figures by going as David LaChapelle’s rendering of Amanda Lepore as Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe.
