Thousand Dollar Look: Hundred Dollar Price

Emmy Rossum works the sparkle and shine in a Theia dress and Pour la Victoire shoes at Showtime’s Fifth Annual Holiday Soiree at the Quincy Estate in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park. With the dress retailing at about $600 and the shoes at $275, her outfit is coming in at a little under $1,000. We can get it for a fraction of that. Let’s go!

The Forgotten Accessory: Gloves

Poor gloves, so neglected, so overshadowed by the mighty shoe obsession. Back in the ’50s gloves were a staple. They had their heyday gracing the hands of such legends as Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly, and Marilyn Monroe. Now in the modern world, they are all but forgotten. Sure, we use them for functional purposes. Like wearing them outside to keep the winter chill from turning our nail beds purple. But what happened to the days when we used to wear them for fashion purposes? I’d love to attend a cocktail party and keep a little set of satin gloves ON while I sip my martini. It’s so throwback chic. I’m waiting for gloves to make a full-fledged comeback. They’re functional and a great way to add a chic look or pop of color to your outfit. After the jump, check out styles that will make you want to wear gloves year round.

Hot Holiday Dresses Under $100

So many holiday parties, so few dresses. We don’t want to do “the repeat,” (what if we run into that hot guy again!?) but looking fab for the holidays isn’t cheap and we certainly don’t want to look cheap either. Especially during that time of year when we feel just a tad more guilty buying things for ourselves. ‘Tis the season for giving, but we still want to look like a million bucks without the guilt! Last week I spotlighted Rent the Runway, which I think is the best idea since sliced bread and caller ID. However, if you opt not to rent and would rather buy and keep, here are some hot, quality dresses for less than a hundred bucks.

Hooray For Head Gear

I get bored with my same ol’ mug day in, day out. I like to experiment with different headbands, clips, hats, and hairstyles. I can’t count how many times I’ve not been able to sleep in the middle of the night and decided to cut my bangs. I don’t mess with the length, but I’m guilty of chopping the bangs more than a few times. By the way, I don’t recommend this. Fortunately I know how to cut hair, which has kept me from looking like Lloyd in Dumb and Dumber. After the jump, spice up your mug this winter in a safer way with stylish yet wearable headpieces.

Left: Laura Kranitz Chloe Headband, $71.

Urban Outfitters Wool Bow Beanie, $24.

Phoebe Floppy Hat, $150.
