From her red-and-white polka dot mini dress, black stockings, and over-sized yellow pumps, Minnie Mouse has become the most famous style icon in animation. Originally designed in 1920s flapper-style, the fashion-forward Disney character has been a trendsetter for nearly a century (and not just as a Halloween costume for tots and tweens). In 2008, Minnie took on NYC Fashion Week as part of Zac Posen’s memorable ready-to-wear collection, where models walked down the runway with black pom-poms in their hair like mouse ears. More recently, Mickey’s better half has made an appearance in Forever 21’s 2010 holiday collection as “Minnie Muse.”
Minnie Muse is a line of loose-fit, lightweight-knit long and short sleeve tees, tanks, hoodies, and cardigans each displaying a different Minnie Mouse image, from graffiti and airbrushed versions to rhinestone-embellished graphics. Another line of Minnie-inspired tops, Purple Cloth’s Holiday 2010 “Mini-Minnie” collection features screenprinted crewneck T-shirts.
