“Too much may not be enough,” said Karl Lagerfeld after the debut of his Chanel Cruise ’12 collection. From the venue (Hotel du Cap on the French Riviera’s Antibes—one of the most expensive hotels in the world), to the cast (Natasha Poly, Karlie Kloss, Stella Tennant, Lily Donaldson, Karolina Kurkova), to the front row (Blake Lively, Clemence Poesy, and Caroline Roitfeld), Lagerfeld went all out to prove that Chanel is, and always will be, synonymous with luxury.
Inspired by Rita Hayworth and Aly Khan, the married movie star and royal socialite who once frequented the halls of Hotel du Cap, looks were decked out in real diamonds and pearls, and took spectators to just about every high-class jetsetter destination—from the beach to society events. See below for a few runway and front row highlights, including a killer black and white kimono-style wrap, and a Roitfeld sighting.

This might be Terry Richardson’s most G-rated shoot to date. Following a successful campaign with model Jessica Stam last year, Canadian footwear retailer Aldo has tapped the photographer to once again snap their ads for SS11. Starring another top model, Lily Donaldson, the quirky campaign is filled with bright colors, beach props, and big smiles—basically everything we look forward to come springtime.
Although it’s mostly cutesy, the ads still have Richardson’s trademark near-naughty flavor, thanks to some semi-provocative posing direction. Watch the campaign video below and see the rest of the photos here.
If you’re addicted to models like Kanye West, then this might be right up your alley. According to Modelina, Lily Donaldson is renting out her 1,700 square-foot apartment in East Village. She purchased the pre-war loft in 2008 for $2.2 million, but it can be yours now for a cool $7,995 a month.
Featuring two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a huge living room, and the all-important washer/dryer duo, there is, amazingly, no doubt that this place will be snatched up soon. The off chance that one of Donaldson’s uninformed supermodel friends might drop by is a bonus.
As previews of next month’s editorials slowly begin to roll out, we’re taking notes on which models and themes are hitting the pages in a major way. One of our favorites so far is Lily Donaldson in the January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, shot by Terry Richardson. Although the editorial does indeed have a wild factor, it’s a much tamer wild than what we’ve seen from the notoriously racy Richardson in the past. Highlighting the best of the 2011 spring collections, the Julia von Boehm-styled feature has Donaldson donning everything from Missoni to Lanvin, all the while playing host to unexpected guest stars like an owl, snake, baby leopard, deer, and bunnies. And being the pro that she is, Donaldson is all smiles in most of the shots, as if feeding a deer in her Burberry trench is a totally common occurrence. While there are a few sans-animal poses, overall Richardson does a great job delivering a fun and fresh editorial that helps alleviate the oh-so-serious connotations of high fashion. Recent rumors swirling around Michael Phelps dating life have finally been addressed by the Alltime Olympian himself, sort of. In an interview with Extra, Phelps insisted he is not dating swimmer Amanda Beard. “I think she has a boyfriend,” he told interviewer Dayna Devon. Why didn’t you grill him about Lily Donaldson, Dayna?! Michael belongs to the public now, and we demand to know! An athlete dating another athlete is drab and unimaginative, but an athlete and a supermodel? Hysteria.
Sure, Michael Phelps’ eight gold medals at these Olympic Games are impressive, but there’s a greater reward for his inhuman success than eight glorified gold coins (though perhaps you still need help dressing yourself.) When you become a superstar athlete, you earn the right to date models, right, Tom Brady? Now that he’s a household name, let whispers of Phelpsian romantic exploits begin. The average looking all-American boy has apparently landed superhot supermodel Lily Donaldson, best known for replacing Kate Moss as the face of Burberry.
But what kind of newly-anointed media darling would Phelps be with just one rumored fling? Swimmer Amanda Beard, who won a gold at the last Olympics in Athens and has posed nude for Playboy, is also being linked to Phelps. But this shouldn’t be new to him. The guy won six gold medals four years ago, so he’s most certainly been swimming in something other than water since then. Everyone from Paris Hilton and first daughter Jenna Bush was linked to him after the last Olympics. That’s also about the time he told the Guardian that he has a “pretty quiet life” and that it’s “kinda boring.” On the subject of a girlfriend, he said, “I haven’t got a girlfriend and I can’t do the kind of things all my friends are doing as college students. I swim, listen to hip hop and work on my car. But, in my opinion, that’s still a pretty good life. I don’t know whether I’d want to trade it for anything.” But that was 6-gold Phelps talking. Now we’re dealing with 14-gold-Phelps, and it looks like he traded it for something, all right. At least he can eat for both of them.
