Missy Elliott Shades Nicki Minaj With a Slick ‘Misdemeanor’ Bite

“Where they from?” hip-hop royalty Missy Elliott interrogates in her Pharrell-produced comeback single, “WTF,” calling out all the names that comfortably rose to fame in her absence. It’s a fair question to ask, coming from the woman who delivered iconic cuts like 2002’s “Work It” and 2005’s “Lose Control”—two tracks that helped unite the once disparate worlds of hip-hop and pop, making it easier for someone like Nicki Minaj to break into Top 40.

In a new interview with Billboard, Elliott fuels the blazing fire first sparked by “WTF” when rap contemporary Minaj is brought up in conversation:

When asked about Nicki Minaj, who is clearly influenced by Elliott, she mock-innocently replies, “Oh, she is?” (Speaking to her influence generally, she adds, “Unfortunately, breaking news, there is only one Missy.”)

Though this was a sly diss true to Misdemeanor’s signature nonchalance, Elliott has given praise to the emcee in past interviews, previously telling New York Magazine that “Nicki makes rapping fun again.” In Billboard, she also reflects on when she was coming up in the industry, acknowledging all the female MCs that were dominating the scene: Lil’ Kim, Lauryn Hill, Eve, Foxy Brown and Trina. “There’s room for so many, she said. “It’s important.” Watch “WTF (Where They From),” below:

Lil Kim Will Be the Coolest Mom Ever: 5 Reasons Why

Lil Kim AKA The Queen Bee gave birth to a baby girl and named her something that have Blue Ivy and North West giving some MAJOR side-eye from some golden crib somewhere…

Weighing in at six pounds, five ounces and measuring 19.5 inches long, Royal Reign (yes, that’s a real person name) was born to the 39-year-old raptress and her rapper boyfriend Mr. Papers (also a real person) on Monday morning at the Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. The baby comes just weeks after her “lavish” baby shower where at least one cast member of every VH1 reality show ever in life was present. While Lil Kim’s recent surgery fails have us wondering exactly WHERE the baby came out of as pretty sure her vagina’s in her chin at this point, we can’t help but be jealous of the lil princess…

Here are our 5 reasons why Lil Kim will actually be the coolest (AKA most embarrassing) mom ever.

5. She was on Dancing With The Stars!! I mean…get into this look!!!

4. Ummm…she went to fucking prison and pretty much made Orange Is The New Black a thing.

 3. Her twitter-feud with Nicki Minaj where she called her out for having cheap weave

2. Her ENTIRE MUSICAL ARCHIVE and every lyric she’s ever spit

 1. She actually wore all of these and we couldn’t even hate on her for it because, well, she’s the Queen!

Why Don’t You Go As A Louis Vuitton Bag?

In case you didn’t get your fill of Halloween festivities this past weekend, since the ghoulish night falls on a Thursday the costumes and candies last almost two weeks this year. If you’re still searching for dress-up inspiration or need another transformational persona to add to your roster, look to the sittings and parties that are more fantasy than fashion. Photographers like Miles Aldridge, Steven Klein, and David LaChapelle have your back.

Why don’t you go as a Louis Vuitton bag? Grab a stencil and some body confidence and get to work. Lil’ Kim photographed by David LaChapelle.

image-3You could always go as the creepy, pure girl. Steven Klein photographs Kate Moss as Good Kate for W.

Bad Kate is an option as well. Here, Moss plays the demon. Pearlescent teeth, mounds of accessories, and horns should do the trick.

image-3Always an option: grab a couture Margiela mask and go as Kanye West.

image-4 If pretty is more your thing, go as Natalie Vodianova’s Alice as shot by Annie Leibovitz. A blue dress, some maryjanes, a headband, and a smattering of small furniture should call the adventure to mind.

Your Daily Guide to Trending Topics

Every day there are some topics that are trending, Since many of them don’t make sense, we provide easy contextualization. Also, this way, you won’t actually have to know anything about anything.

Robert F. Kennedy

RFK Jr. is trending today because yesterday his estranged wife, Mary Kennedy, died, reportedly from having hanged herself at their Westchester, New York estate. It’s just the latest tragedy for the seemingly cursed American political dynasty, which has seen more than its fair share of members die in tragic and untimely ways. The Kennedys were married in 1994, but last year Bobby filed for divorce amid rumors of Mary’s substance abuse issues and of his own philandering. “We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her,” the family said in a statement.

Nick Stahl

In other curse news, people are searching up a storm (both online and in person) for actor Nick Stahl of Terminator 3 is the latest cast member of that franchise to run into trouble. The 32-year-old’s wife has reported him missing, saying the last time he was seen was May 9 and adding that Stahl had been frequenting a down-and-out part of Los Angeles, perhaps a hint at drug use. Stahl took over in the Terminator franchise for Edward Furlong, who left the series to find his own problems, including stints in rehab and accusations of rather serious violence against his wife. Troubled actors including Christian Bale and Thomas Dekker have also been part of the series of films.

Tyra Banks

Over at Yahoo!, things are a little more lighthearted; the site’s number-one search term is “Tyra Banks Too Fat.” But the readers there aren’t hating, they’re searching for an essay the America’s Next Top Model host wrote  for The Daily Beast supporting the new Vogue rule banning underage and malnourished models. In the piece, Banks discusses her own battles with weight and how difficult it made her teenage life. Then she explains what exactly it is about her modeling competition show that is healthy for young viewers. No, of course she doesn’t do that part.

iPad Mini

People are nuts about Apple products—spending money on them instead of more valuable Apple stock—but this is crazy. The internet is wild with iAddicts searching for a report that says that Apple might be planning to release a 7-inch version of its tablet, which would retail for about $250, to compete with the Kindle. There already is an iPad Mini, guys, it’s called an iPhone. Whatever, see you all in line.

John Travolta

Bing users are still a bit hung up on movie star and pubic hair hippie John Travolta and the mounting lawsuits against him for making homosexy advanced toward masseurs and other guys. Too bad searching for Travolta news on Bing doesn’t bring you this hot nugget: According to the wife of late Grease star Jeff Conway, Travolta once tried to wake the now-deceased actor with oral sex, leading to a rift in their friendship and what might have been a lasting distaste on Conway’s part for morning action.

Lil Kim

Twitter is bonkers for the Queen Bee this morning, due to her appearance on a New York radio show and also the news that she has taken in her estranged father, who’s reportedly suffering from Alzheimer’s but could also be a spy sent by Nicki Minaj and Foxy Brown to attack from inside her home. The story is developing.

Biggie’s Mom Tweet-Cuts Lil Kim’s Verse on Monica Single

This has been quite the eventful year for Lil Kim (in terms of unnecessary beefs) but this time the Queen B might actually be the victim. Just over a week ago, Monica’s new single “Anything (To Find You)” — recorded over a sample of the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Who Shot Ya” — surfaced, with verses from Lil Kim and Rick Ross. But this past week the song’s official premiere was mysteriously absent of Kim’s verse. Turn outs that Big’s mom, Voletta Wallace, still isn’t down with her son’s ex-flame.

Monica was the first to address the whole thing on Twitter, confirming that Ms. Wallace would not allow an official release if Kim’s verse remained intact — ouch!

image

Beef between the two is nothing new, as Kim once took aim at Wallace for downplaying her relationship with Biggie, and most recently, expressed distaste at the way she was portrayed in the 2009’s Notorious. Things got a little emo after the blow was finalized, when the track’s producer Missy Elliott chiming in on Kim’s behalf. Looks like Ms. Wallace got the final say.

But hey, in case any of you are really worried about Kim, she’s already got some new tricks up her sleeves.

The Lil Kim vs. Nicki Minaj War Isn’t Over Yet

The most recent installments of the long-running Minaj/Kim beef saw Lil Kim release her Black Friday mixtape and claim to sell 113K copies of it via PayPal (a number that is still unconfirmed), while Nicki Minaj appeared to laugh at the silliness of it all. Then things got relatively quiet. Quiet until this past weekend, that is, when a new anti-Kim verse from Nicki hit the web. Dubbed “Tragedy,” it’s an unfinished cut reportedly from Lil Wayne’s upcoming album, Tha Carter IV.

Three things we learned from Minaj’s new one-minute verse:

1. Nicki Minaj was definitely laughing at Kim’s claim to have sold 113K copies of Black Friday over night.

2. “Raggedy Ann” shall henceforth be Lil Kim’s new nickname.

3. Releasing a verse on one of the year’s most anticipated albums is probably a leg up on releasing a 20-track diss mixtape via PayPal.

Nicki Minaj – Tragedy

Lil Kim Claims to Sell 113k Copies of ‘Black Friday’ Mixtape

Since our last coverage of the carefully orchestrated — and at this point, mostly one-sided — Lil Kim vs. Nicki Minaj feud, Kim has reportedly managed to push 113k copies of her Black Friday mixtape, bringing her to a grand total of $1 million in sales. This report comes directly from Kim’s Twitter feed, which also claims that PayPal was temporarily shut down last night due to the overwhelming number of fans who logged on to shell out $9.99.

As a few people have pointed out, there is, in fact, no way to track the amount of sales that Kim has made through PayPal, forcing us to rely on her honor code instead. Minaj, who has turned a blind eye to some of the recent antics, caught wind of Kim’s superb sales news, and sent her congratulations over Twitter: image

Maybe Kim sensed the sarcasm, because she went on to denounce “Twitter beef” and to explain that “real beef is when you get your ass whipped 20 minutes later,” and also that “Real beef is when someone gets shot 5 minutes later.” On that note, Kim will world-premiere the visuals for her lead single, “Black Friday,” on Friday. Keep an eye out for that Nicki Minaj look-a-like, if you can still pay attention.
