The temperatures may be dropping in New York City but the party circuit is still hot. Valentino showed couture stateside and it brought about a bundle of stylish avid Valentino wearers. Stephanie Seymour proves she’s the definition of elegance and Carey Mulligan has a major red moment in Switzerland. Who gets your vote for best dressed?

STYLE SCOOP: Anna Wintour Slums It, Katie Holmes Shutters, Kendall Jenner is Legit

Kendall Jenner has Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, and now Chanel under her belt. The moving-toward-bonafide runway model shopped the chic Chanel hypermarché for Karl Lagerfeld. Pick us up some oeufs while you’re out, won’t you?

Holmes and Yang, that label founded by Katie Holmes and her stylist, is supposedly no longer. The two reportedly disagreed on everything, making running a successful business technically impossible. Oh well. Will we miss it?

Anna Wintour sat second row at Valentino — quel horreur!! She may have switched seats with Vogue.com reviewer Sarah Mower, but still.

Katie Holmes, Rachel Zoe: Celebs Showing at New York Fashion Week

Katie Holmes isn’t wasting any time revamping her life, post-Tom Cruise. Now that she’s nailed that “he’s-gone-I’m-free-I’m-free!” glow, the 33-year-old actress is looking to establish herself as a legitimate fashion designer because she’s a strong woman who can make her own damn decisions now.

Per Vogue UK, the Holmes & Yang line that she designs with her stylist Jeanne Yang will debut its spring 2013 collection on Wednesday, September 12 at the Box – Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The official MBFW schedule includes the event’s listing, so it’s really happening. Given that the Box is "a 125-seat studio venue which has been specifically designed to house intimate presentations," I’m wondering who will receive a golden ticket to the exclusive event, assuming that Holmes (and Baby Suri!) show up for it.

Other famous faces showing this season include celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, who thoroughly impressed editors and buyers at her off-site debut presentation last September. She’ll show at the Studio – Lincoln Center on September 12 at 1pm. Reality star Whitney Port of the guilty pleasure series The Hills will also be showing at the Studio on September 12 at 5pm.

As for celebrities not showing this time around, it looks like Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. is off the agenda, as the stylish pop star is busy promoting a new album and hosting fundraisers for President Obama. And Victoria Beckham must be occupied with her fellow Spice Girls post-Olympics reunion across the pond. Another notable absence on the schedule is Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s CFDA-approved luxury line, The Row. Hmmmm.

Harper Seven is the Suri Cruise of 2012

2011 was the year of youth style. From tween actors like Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld, to bloggers like Tavi Gevinson, the fashion world was openly enthralled with said sartorial wunderkinds, documenting their fashion sense just as thoroughly as they would for Kate Moss and Chloë Sevigny. Leading the pack was the offspring of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Suri Cruise. While the five-year-old stylesetter was last year’s tot to envy, there’s a new kid on the block that’s quickly giving Cruise a run for her money–and she’s only five months old.

On July 10, 2011, Victoria and David Beckham welcomed their first baby girl, Harper Seven. This certainly filled a void in the pop star turned fashion designer’s life because, although she has enjoyed styling her three sons in cute little man outfits for years, it was time that Posh Spice had her very own Mini-Me to match ensembles with. As Grazia thoroughly documents in today’s Harper Seven style spotlight, the girl can’t even stand on her own two feet yet and she’s already rocking Stella McCartney and Chloe.

While Harper Seven is poised to be this year’s best-dressed baby, this is all child’s play until the real fashion phenom arrives: Beyonce and Jay-Z’s first born.

‘Vanity Fair’ Debuts Katie Holmes Cover With Scientology Wife-Auditioning Piece

New York magazine stabbed Katie Holmes right in the heart with its piece depicting her as a master manipulator who used Tom Cruise (and is now using Suri) to further her limp career. Vanity Fair‘s October 2012 cover takes a different tack, plastering Holmes’ gorgeous face on the cover with the sympathetic headline "What Katie Didn’t Know: Marriage, Scientology-Style."

VF‘s Maureen Orth delved into the 2004 search for a suitable wife for Cruise, which started with actresses who were already Scientologists. Women were brought in to audition for a "new training film" and asked, "What do you think of Tom Cruise?" An Iranian-British actress Nazanin Boniadi was supposedly selected and dated Cruise for three months from November 2004 until January 2005. She enjoyed a series of whirlwind dates — dinner at Nobu, renting out the skating rink at Rockefeller Center — but was repeatedly chastised for not behaving deferentially enough to Cruise and "disrespecting" Scientology chief David Miscaviage. Orth writes that Boniadi was finally dumped by a Scientology official — she was told Cruise was too busy to break up with her himself — and sent to a Scientology center in Florida for grunt work. Not surprisingly, Miscaviage and Cruise declined to participate in the article.

None of this is really new news for anyone who has been following Scientology rumors over the years or who has read Janet Reitman’s Inside Scientology: The Story of America’s Most Secretive Religion. What’s really most notable about the Vanity Fair piece is that its a finger right in the eye of Hollywood Scientologists. Good for newsstand sales, perhaps. But how will it affect VF‘s public relations in Tinsel Town? That annual Vanity Fair Oscars party is going to be awkward.

How To Look Like Katie Holmes, Post-Tom Cruise

For Katie Holmes, stripping herself of Tom Cruise has been a bit like stripping herself of a full-body case of leprosy or scabies – she’s instantly hotter. Whether she’s teaching Suri how to ride a bike, or getting coffee with her mom, Holmes looks good – and happy. And definitely better than the last photo of her and Cruise together.

So how do we get that “he’s-gone-I’m-free-I’m-free!” glow that she has, without signing a contract and marrying a potentially gay and charismatic Scientologist?

Thankfully, we have international hair and makeup artist Leah Bennett, whose work has graced the runways of London, New York, and Australia’s Fashion Week, to make the process nearly all-too-easy. With the help of Bennett’s expert skincare and makeup guidance, you’ll be confusing the paparazzi in no time.

Skincare
For a no-fail, revitalizing pre-makeup routine, stick with the Omorovicza brand. The company’smagnesium-rich mud extract Thermal Cleansing Balm cleanses the skin without stripping it, so you’re actually left with that just-woke radiance. Applying Omorovicza’s oil-free Radiance Renewal Serum afterward brightens and conserves the complexion throughout the day. According to Bennett, “This erases any signs of stress and tiredness. A GIRL’S BEST FRIEND. A pea-size is substantial enough.”

Makeup
Face:
“For Katie Holmes, we are going for the natural look. After your canvas is prepped to perfection, apply a five-cent piece of Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation using a foundation brush, which creates a dewy, natural complexion. Less is always more." With your ring finger, gently pat Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage Concealer around the eyes and the edge of your nose and chin. “These are the key areas where we reflect red and uneven, textured skin."

Eyes:
Lightly dust Mac’s Shroom Eye Shadow ($19) over the bridge of the eyebrow bone and the corner of the tear duct to open, brighten, and reflect the eyes. Then, outline the top and bottom lash line. “This defines and captures the doe-almond quality of Katie Holmes’ eyes.” Curl lashes and apply two coats of Dior’s Diorshow Iconic Black Mascara ($28.50). “This lengthens the look of the lashes, clump-free.”

Lips:
To capture that ‘I wake up looking like this’ aura, balance your understated cheeks and eyes with mild nougat and taupe-colored lipsticks. "Mac’s Lustre in ‘Hug Me’ ($22) is the epitome of a soft, creamy, and understated lip color.”

Finishing touches:
“To sculpt and enhance your sexy cheek bones, use Givenchy’s Poudre Bonne Mine Healthy Glow Powder in shade #4 ($50). Light, feathery brush strokes prevent muddy complexions and create that youthful ‘bronzed goddess’ look.” Follow your hairline, cheekbone and chin. For that pinched-cheek look, smile to enhance your cheekbones, and make light, circular motions on them using Mac’s Powder Blush in Blushbaby ($17.50). And the final touches to any makeover is a spritz of Urban Decay’s Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray ($29). This will keep your Holmes-inspired look all night.” Past the paparazzis’ bedtime.

Suri Cruise Enrolled In The Same NYC Prep School That Brought Us Paris Hilton

It looks like Katie Holmes plans to stay awhile: the recently freed actress has enrolled six-year-old Suri Cruise in the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a posh NYC all-girls prep school. That sounds all fine and good until you realize this school was responsible for Paris and Nicky Hilton’s education. However, let’s not forget Suri was thisclose to being brainwashed at a Scientologist school.

Sacred Heart is located on East 91st Street at 5th Ave, a bit of a trek from Katie and Suri’s current Chelsea digs. The $38,000-per-year tuition has also been footed for the likes of the somewhat more respectable Caroline Kennedy, Jordana Brewster, Caroline Giuliani, Ally Hilfiger, and the late Gloria Vanderbilt. None other than Lady Gaga is also the Roman Catholic school’s alum. A rival prep school student once sniffed to Page Six magazine that Sacred Heart girls were "a little sluttier and less smart." Don’t say you weren’t warned, Katie.

Parents of Sacred Heart current students, nuns, and ritzy neighbors, get your sharp elbows ready for the inevitable influx of paparazzi. It should be fun.

Katie Holmes’ ‘Les Miserables’ Solo Predicted TomKat Split, Sort Of

We here at Black Book were shattered — shattered, I tell you — to hear of the recent divorcing filing of Katie Holmes from Tom Cruise. I don’t exactly recall this Dawson’s Creek clip of Katie warbling On My Own making the rounds back when Katie and ex-boyfriend Chris Klein split. (Um, was the Internet even invented back then?) All the more reason we should all watch it now.

So much to enjoy: Dawson’s ’90s hair! Michelle Williams egregiously abusing her hair straightener! Katie back when she had a glint in her eye and a verve in her step!  I’m not quite sure she could ever make it in the role of Eponine on Broadway but she certainly held her own at the local talent show. Dawson certainly thought so.

(P.S. If you want to hear a better pretty young thing covering On My Own, my vote goes to Jessica Lowndes from 90210, who has an impressive set of pipes on her.)

End of an Era: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Divorce!

Talk about risky business: after just five years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce. According to TMZ, Katie blindsided Tom yesterday when she anonymously filed the divorce papers in NY, citing “irreconcilable differences.” If these crazy kids can’t make it, what hope do the rest… Ah, nevermind. We all saw this coming, didn’t we?

Holmes asked for sole legal custody and “primary residential custody” of Suri, the couple’s six-year-old daughter. She has also asked Cruise for a “suitable amount” of child support, along with a division of property in the divorce docs. However, she made no mention of a pre-nup arrangement based on California law in the file, according to TMZ.

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. "Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest." Judging by her hefty demands, we’d say that it’s not just for Suri’s best interest. After all, it does help that Cruise had a net worth of $250 million when the couple married in November 2006. And, of course, giving an exclusive to People doesn’t necessarily indicate that it’s a “personal and private” affair, huh?

At least they stuck in there longer than Kim Kardash-outta-the-altar…nothing can top their short-lived 72 days of wedded bliss.
