J.Lo Is Returning to Comedy With ‘Second Act’

Jennifer Lopez is returning to comedy with the new trailer for Second Act, and it actually looks really funny (but no surprise there).

J.Lo stars as Maya, working a dead-end superstore job, who decides to trick her away into the corporate world by faking her resume.

Leah Remini co-stars in the film and makes us guffaw in this trailer – also, Cormac McLaggen from Harry Potter and, more importantly than anything, Vanessa. Ann. Hudgens. Is. In. This. Film.

Take a look below, and see the movie in theaters November 21.

Justin Bieber & Lady Gaga Lookalikes Appear In Celebrity Gossip Musical

Clubs with themes have migrated to Times Square to cash in on their financial base: tourists. Hayne Southern moved her Lucky Cheng’s to The Drag Queen Capital of the Universe, from her longrunning First Ave. location to 240 W. 52nd Street where the old Touch nightclub once showed everybody how not to be cool. The old Lucky Cheng’s space has new operators gearing it up to be wonderful. After many years catering to the hip, Lucky Cheng’s became completely dependent on tourists, bachelorette parties, and gatherings like this, so a move to the center of that universe, Times Square, was in the cards.

Culture Club, an ’80s-themed nightclub, thrived on Varick Street for eight years. It also enjoyed a large and loyal following, with tourists being a big part of that. Culture Club moved to 20 W. 39th Street, the former home of Club Speed which, according to neighbors and anyone else with social responsibility, could not close fast enough. Culture Club is fun and attracts a crowd looking to play along. Owner Robert Watman is a theme machine, having offered up the 70s-themed Polly Esthers club and ‘90s-themed joint Nerveana.

Culture Club is now offering a new off-Broadway musical-meets-nightlife interactive show.” Totally Tubular Time Machine (TTTM)  blasts onto our scene last Saturday and from all accounts was a blast. From what I can gather, it’s a time machine that has imitation pop icons performing as themselves and in unusual pairings: "Britney Spears, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Beiber, Vanilla Ice, and more…right there with you, and in front of you, and all around you!"

The pitch goes on to tell us that:

"Totally Tubular Time Machine is an immersive, radical pop music experience filled with live performances, party favors, and celebrity gossip, including a fun battle of the pop stars, i.e. Lady Gaga vs. Madonna. Guests witness 2013 Madonna warn 1989 Madonna of a pop star named Lady Gaga who will steal the beat to “Express Yourself,” while Justin Bieber went back in time and fulfilled his dream of dancing with Michael Jackson. Guests also re-lived the time when JLO and Puff Daddy were a couple and watched them perform her recent hit “On the Floor” together. It’s Back to the Future meets the MTV Music Awards, and you’re the star in this totally immersive, radical mash-up of pop music from the ‘80s, ‘90s and today!"

It’s Saturday nights. I’m there. They got me at Bieber.

How To Get Rihanna, JLo, & Katie Perry’s Grammy Looks

Sure, the Grammy’s were all about all that singing stuff, but let’s get to the shallow basics: people looked hot. Most notably, Rihanna, JLo, and Katy Perry. How did they look classic, glowy, and dollface? Well, I’m glad you asked… here’s BlackBook’s resident makeup artist Leah Bennett – whose work has graced the runways of London and New York – to give you the step-by-step on the trends.

Rihanna

Classic beauty-look never dates, and can be worn by all skin tones. The key with this look is not to overdo eyes, cheeks, or lips, but to create a balance and dimension in the face.

1. Choose a red that will suit your skin tone, whether it be a blue undertone, fuschia, or an orange undertone. Have fun and mix and match.

2. Skin should be dewy and fresh. Using a luminous foundation, such as Hourglass’s tinted moisturizer, which will give you that natural glow.

3. Use a natural concealer, like MAC’s select concealer, and layer where needed under the eyes, nose, and chin. The skin should be a flawless canvas.

4. For eyes, use gold tones or sliver and natural colors; these compliment that sexy red lip like miss Rihanna’s. But the key is in the lashes: use MAC’s number 7 for a natural voluptuous flare that opens and dramatizes the eye, completing that classic beauty look.

Jennifer Lopez

JLo can do no wrong. This look is about accentuating all your natural features. Contour, contour, contour.

1. JLo is the queen of dewy, glowy skin (evidence here)! Use Copacabana’s highlighter bars and mix in your choice of foundation. This will give you that extra boost of glow and light, and will reflect off the skin, creating that picture-perfect runway skin finish. Then, use a MAC’s matte bronzer to contour the cheekbones, chin and hair line. Blend and sculpt.

2. Frame the brows with Hourglass’s brow pencil, and comb hair upwards, framing the face.

3. Stila’s all-day liquid eyeliner will create that bold, ‘60s eyeliner look. JLo has framed her top and bottom lash line to create drama. This look is all about soft but strong angles, creating a skinnier face shape.

4. Keep a neutral lip to balance the luminous skin. This look is timeless and can be worn day and night.

Katie Perry

With Katie, it’s all about shimmer and metallic to reflect light and open the eyes.

1. Use taupe or gold as your base color, and matte dark black navy to contour the socket line. Thick liner is best to create drama to the eye top and bottom.   Like Katie, use a black pencil on the inner rim, such as MACs smolder eyeliner to create a sassy eye. Lashes are a must.

2. For the skin, create a natural matte finish with MAC’s pro longwear foundation. This will give you that doll face finish, and last all day.

3. Since this look is all about the eyes, keep the skin mild by opting for a neutral bronzer to sculpt the cheekbones, dusting lightly.

4. And here’s a trick for your lips: mix your concealer with a touch of gloss to create that perfect nude.

How To Get The JLo Glow: An Expert’s Guidance

The JLo glow. You know what it looks like (to the left): a mixture of coming back from St. Tropez, meeting the love of your life, and finding a puppy under your pillow one morning.  And while we all can’t afford a team of makeup artists and airbrushing for every photo, we can certainly benefit from the expertise of BlackBook’s resident makeup artist: Leah Bennett, whose work has graced the runways of London, New York, and Australia’s Fashion Week. Here, Bennett guides us – piece by piece – on how to get this look without spending four hours and $400 on the endeavor. You’re in good hands.

1. Oil it up.
Winter winds dry away most of your skin’s natural oils, the same oils that lend to a glowy look throughout the day. Get them back naturally with the omega-3 and vitamin C-packed oil Tarte Maracuja ($46). The elixir instantly absorbs into the skin, plumping and repairing it.

2. Apply the foundation.
Whether you’re building a house or experimenting with a recipe, you’ve got to build a good foundation first. And when it comes to your skin, the same rules apply. Smooth MAC’s Face And Body Foundation ($27) along your cheekbones, forehead, nose, and chin. This foundation is water resistant and tinted, so it gives color and very light coverage. For even more of a glow, also apply MAC Strobe Cream ($18) with a foundation brush, which is infused with skin-loving iridescent particles and antioxidants.

3. Make it flawless.
Concealer does all the work your foundation doesn’t; it vanishes all those unwanted blemishes, red tones, and dark circles. Sweep under the eyes and around the nose and chin with the full-coverage MAC Studio Finish Concealer ($18). Pat and blend until the look appears natural, and make sure to do this in white light, which instantly reveals any mistakes.

4. Frame the face.
For the JLo Glow, the contouring must be kept subtle. You want to frame the face, not make it a statement. Keep it light with MAC Buff ($20) in gingerly, a subtle shade, and contour the cheekbones, nose, and forehead with a foundation brush.

5. Take a brow.
One of the strongest and most ignored features on the face, the brows shape the eyes, which are paramount for the glow. Use a matte eyeshadow, like the MAC Eye Shadow ($18) in charcoal brown, to frame and fill the brow. Sweep the brow as if you are lighting a match. Use an angled brush to control how heavy or soft you want the look.

6. Become a cat.
Getting that winged, cat look for your eyes is a feat, and takes lots of practice and hits and misses. But it’s possible. To begin, get as close as you can to your lash line, and apply a liquid eyeliner in either soft strokes, or in one long sweep. If you have a magnifying mirror, use it. To wing the eye out, follow the end of the lash line to the end of your eyebrow, and sweep up. Use a q-tip to clean up any mistakes, and add concealer to keep your under-eye area looking fresh. Add plenty of mascara to open and create fullness to the eyes. Dior’s Diorshow Mascara ($25) creates a cat-lash, as it keeps your lashes fanned and full.

7. Get bold.
Your last step: the lips. Lip stains are your best friend to turn to, as they don’t need to be reapplied throughout the night. Get bold (and a bargain) with Sephora’s Lip Stain ($12) in always red. For the ultimate pout, line the lips with Sephora’s Lip Liner ($5) in real red, another unbeatable deal.
