Tonight, Join IMPROVD for a Night of Fashion, Art & Music in Meatpacking

Founded by retail vet Sam Ben-Avraham and designer Valentino Vettori, IMPROVD has earned more than a little media attention since launching last year, when their debut collection was immediately picked up by the likes of Barneys New York and Saks Fifth Avenue. IMPROVD’s latest range of artistically crafted avant-garde basics is just as covetable, so they’re throwing a party at their Meatpacking storefront to celebrate tonight – and you’re invited.

While the success of their SS12 collection, inspired by the vivid colors and unique feather-shape of parrots (above), is enough reason to party, IMPROVD is also hosting an art exhibit as part of an ongoing artist collaboration series. Tonight from 7-9pm at the IMPROVD store (819 Washington Street), acclaimed English illustrator Blue Logan will unveil a series of fashion illustrations created just for the brand, which are available for purchase through November. We hear cool kids DJ Becka Diamond and DJ Cash are spinning the night’s soundtrack, so consider this an essential first stop for your Wednesday nightlife itinerary. Swing on by!

New York Openings: Improvd, NARS, Alexander Wang

Improvd (Meatpacking District) – Distressed brick provides the backdrop for elegant line established in the heady days of 2010. ● NARS (West Village) – François Nars opens first NYC NARS, adds plenty of personal touches. ● Alexander Wang (Soho) – Flagship store for AW’s “vagabond meets street-smart modernist” looks.

Three Pop-Up Shops, Two Coasts

Apparently fashion’s fascination with pop-up shops hasn’t worn off one iota. A few big names are launching temporary spaces this week, and first up is the Ace Hotel, which is bringing its wandering pop-up shop to Los Angeles tomorrow. Dubbed the Ace Hotel x One Trip Pass Pop-Up Shop, the temporary boutique is opening its doors in honor of a coastal caravan that’s been trucking from Portland, Oregon down to Palm Springs (two of Ace’s three US locations) with the intention of “rediscover[ing] American craft,” says Ace. Expect a vast array of items having something to do with “humor, kitsch, oddities, and the beauty of storytelling.” More specifically, wares from the likes of Apolis Activism, Billykirk, Pendleton, and Fjallraven, among others. 10% of proceeds go to benefit Paddle to Live, a fundraiser for cancer care. The shop will be housed in LA’s Cleveland Art from Thursday through Saturday before moving to Palm Springs’ Ace Hotel & Swim Club that night.

Meanwhile, in both its Soho and Los Angeles stores, Ace partner in crime Opening Ceremony is erecting a shop within in a shop for French footwear mavens Repetto. The temporary shops are carrying the ballet-style classics, which OC has been stocking for seasons, but will also include an exclusive, limited edition line of Repetto for Opening Ceremony kicks that will remain in stores for a full year. Last but not least, opening tonight is a temporary home for Improvd, a newly launched line from Sam Ben-Avraham (who owns the Atrium stores and founded Project) and showroom owner Valentino Vettori. The sportswear centric collection – wrap and t-shirt dresses, jumpsuits, leather jackets – is taking up residence in Ben-Avraham’s Soho Atrium outpost starting tonight, with cocktails and select guests.
