Third Time’s a Charm for Fashion’s Night Out

September 8, 2011 marks the third year of Fashion’s Night Out, and it’s shaping up to be the best year yet. While Vogue’s star-judged Polyvore contest, Alexander Wang’s talent show, and Nicola Formichetti’s pop-up shop are enough to get us hyped for the night already, Modelina notes that a bunch of top models are throwing events, too. Read on for the details.

Erin Wasson will celebrate her new capsule collection with French luxury brand Zadig & Voltaire at Bloomingdales and the first 50 guests to spend $300 or more will receive a Wasson-autographed t-shirt. Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Erin Heatherton, and Lily Aldridge will also be at Victoria’s Secret in the Financial District to take pictures and makeover fans. More model action, right this way.

Styleite also listed a few designer events to note, including Michael Kors acting as a window mannequin at Bergdorfs and Marc Jacobs throwing carnivals in the West Village and Soho.

Erin Wasson Housewares, Anyone?

“There’s an interior designer inside me dying to get out!” were the exact words uttered by Erin Wasson when we chatted last year. It looks like the supermodel/stylists/designer, even while balancing multiple projects, hasn’t let the idea go. Her recent hint at her new design direction comes by way of an interview conducted on Australia’s Bondi Beach.

During a recent trip to Down Under, Wasson sat with Kate Waterhouse of The Sydney Morning Herald to discuss everything from being tormented in high school (“people always thought that I looked really butch”) to shopping (“I don’t really buy designer stuff”).

When asked about how she might expand her jewelry line, she explained, “interior design is just another extension because when you design clothing and jewelry, you’re creating a lifestyle and naturally you take that to another level.” Given the radness of her own digs, our fingers are crossed that she’ll follow through.

Erin Wasson Really Wants You To See Her New Jewelry Line

Jack-of-all-fashion-trades Erin Wasson wants to share the latest collection in her jewelry line, Low Luv, inspired by a whole host of symbolic imagery, including Native American eagles and the eye of Providence, most commonly seen on the back of a dollar bill. In a somewhat hazy explanation for the cross-cultural references, Wasson states, “I want pieces that look intense and have meaning.”

Last season’s line is currently sold in a variety of stores and online retailers, with no word on when we can expect the new collection to drop. One thing’s certain though: with these pictures, she has our attention.

Top 3: Erin Wasson

There’s not much Erin Wasson hasn’t done. She’s styled two seasons for designer and friend Alexander Wang, launched her own jewelry line, called LowLuv, and designed collections for RVCA. Oh, and she’s a supermodel with renowned personal style, which looks like the visual equivalent of what a fusion of psychedelic, folk, and tribal beats must sound like. “Music is one of my greatest inspirations,” says Wasson. I love afro-funk and old school soul. I love this ’70s psychedelic band from Nigeria called BLO. I also like some good old country, like Candi Staton and Wanda Jackson. My music taste is all over the place – just like my style!”

While building her brand, Wasson found the time to make trips down the runway at Paris Fashion Week to honor a few notable designers. “You do the ones you love, that inspire you,” she explains. “Hermes was Jean Paul Gaultier’s last season so it was a bit of a beautiful farewell. And Chanel, well, is there ever a reason not to spend time with Karl Lagerfeld? Being in his presence makes you a more enlightened person.” Not that the girl needs any more creative juice. Whether it’s returning to her Venice Beach home with a fully-functional treehouse and skate ramp (“I go to Los Angeles to escape the New York chaos – it’s like a yin and yang for me), or returning to her Texas roots in Austin (“That city is full of music and magic”), Wasson is and always will be a free bird. So what project might she be taking under her wing next? “Maybe housewares,” she hints. “There’s an interior designer inside me dying to get out!”

A Bijules Collaboration Is Born, While Erin Wasson & RVCA Fizzles

Designing a line of swimsuits named Nycked along with Lorenzo Martone (Marc Jacobs’ better half) isn’t the only collaboration keeping Jules Kim busy these days. The jewelry designer is embarking on a diffusion line for her NYC-based collection Bijules with Urban Outfitters called BJ by Jules Kim. “Comprised of sterling silver, plastic and gold-plated sterling silver rings, priced from $18 to $162, the looks are near-spitting images of ones found in the brand’s signature collection — only these sell for around half the price (or in the case of the $18 plastic rings, a mere fraction of the price),” says All The Rage. As with Kim’s namesake line, expect affordable bold styles like the Rihanna-approved nail ring and thin ‘bar’ rings in both silver and plastic, which are already in stores.

Meanwhile, in other news on the collaboration front: Erin Wasson for RVCA is no more. Rumor has it the model’s team was incredibly hard to work with (“total chaos and the epitome of unorganized,” said one source), forcing the surf and skate-wear company to cease partnership on a line that had garnered quite a bit of attention. However, collaborations in general at RVCA (like an ongoing one with fashion blogger Rumi Neely) will continue.

Alexander Wang’s 5-Minute Spring Face

There’s more that goes into the ‘no makeup’ look than not wearing any. If you just didn’t wear makeup, this would be a lot easier. For one, I wouldn’t have to write this post. And you would save money. Or maybe spend more on skin treatments. But I’m just going to go with my gut and assume that if you’re reading this, you probably wear a little makeup. Or at least like Alexander Wang. And therefore you probably know how casual and cool his all-American girls looked with those bold brows and dewy faces for spring. Here’s how they got it, who does it, and where to get it.

image

The Makeup Artist: Diane Kendal, M.A.C Cosmetics Artist’s Aesthetic: American Nomad. “Strong brows and beautifully fresh, dewy skin.” Eyes: Clear Lipglass on eyelids to bring out the eye without adding pigment (and perhaps look like you’ve just woke up from a balmy tropical nap– with no makeup!). Brow Pencils in Fling and Lingering and feathering into brows a vertical angle to get the subtly spiky brows. Face: Conceal blemishes with Select Cover-Up only where it is actually needed. Blushcremes in Lilicent and Ladyblush mixed together and applied in a sheer layer on apples of the cheek (sheerness= almost no makeup!). Lip: Studio Finish Concealer to slightly mute the lip around the edges while letting the natural color to peek through in the middle of the pout. Lip Conditioner layered over to bring out the balminess and match the dewiness of the eye and cheek finish.

Other ‘No Makeup’ Champions:

Hanneli Mustaparta, fashion blogger and model, is the queen of the American Nomad face. She always lets her pretty skin take center stage, while defining her face with bold brows and a dewy finish on bare eyes and toned lips. image

The models sported the same bold brows and dewy skin for the RVCA Fall/Winter 2010 show. image

Speaking of RVCA, Erin Wasson is the poster child for the no makeup look. She goes bare with just a little cover-up which lets her balmy skin and naturally bold brows stand out. image
