This is not a drill. Rihanna is coming to the big screen.
No, BBHMM is not hitting theaters (though we’d see it if it was); the songstress has landed herself a major movie role in the forthcoming sci fi flick Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets. And if that weren’t good enough news already, the film costars none other than Cara Delevingne and comes courtesy of Luc Besson, the director best known for Léon: The Professional and everyone’s favorite 90s sci fi classic, The Fifth Element.
Besson took to Instagram to make the big announcement, posting a characteristically gorgeous picture of RiRi with the appropriately enthusiastic caption “RIHANNA is in VALERIAN!!!!! …and she has a big part!! I’m Sooo excited!!!”
So what can we expect from Valérian? An adaptation of the popular French graphic novel series “Valérian and Laureline,” the film follows two government operatives tasked with maintaining intergalactic order. There’s plenty of man candy in the film as well; Dane Dehaan plays the title role and Clive Owen is the man in charge.
While this isn’t the first time Rihanna’s graced the big screen – she starred in the utterly brutal Battleship back in 2012 and who could forget her cameo in This Is The End – but this is undoubtedly her most promising major role to date.
What’s the catch? Valérian doesn’t hit theaters until 2017.
