The General, EMM Group’s latest Asian restaurant on Bowery, gets even newer with today’s opening of its bakery. And while this is a charming update on the sweets front, the announcement becomes positively electrifying with the introduction of two menu items: World, meet The Cereal-Inspired Donut & The Breakfast Pretzel Bomb.
Crafted by pastry chef Thiago Silva – the chef behind every EMM restaurants’ desserts – the cereal-inspired donuts ($3) come in six combos, three of which include: Fruity Pebbles with Cereal Milk, Coffee with Espresso Cream, and Coco Puffs with Coco Cream. The breakfast pretzel bomb ($4-$5) – a good dose of protein, dairy, and salt – is filled with egg & cheese, with a choice of ham or bacon.
Stumptown Hair Bender coffee is also being served, as is fresh orange & grapefruit juice.
It’s also open seven days a week, from 6am-2pm.
Free Wi-Fi is available.
I know; it just keeps getting better. Life is sweet.

Feels like just yesterday, huh? Well now we’re gonna do it all again. But better. Regardless of your stance on the election, the inauguration of Obama on Monday, January 21st is a good opportunity to head to DC, drink like you just got out of prison, and conquer the city’s top brunch and dinner places like a viking. Yeah, I want you to live it up. Not just because you only live once yadda yadda, but also because you paid good money for that train/bus/flight to be in the nation’s civic hub, so your weekend better be great. And with this Inauguration guide, it certainly will be.

Can this day get any better? Just when we thought it was enough that spring has finally started and 70 degree days are becoming the norm, a bunch of French bakeries have decided that today is also “Macaron Day,” and they’ll be handing out FREE samples of the colorful, circular morsels!
Organized by macaron master François Payard, today marks the third annual Macaron Day in NYC, which essentially means that the spring version of trick-or-treating can commence: stop by any –or all- of the 16 participating bakeries
and mention “Macaron NYC Day” for a free almond and egg white cookie fille with decadent buttercream.
Of the bakeries that are participating, here are our neighborhood favorites:
Each participating shop has Macaron Cards you can add stickers to; the more bakeries you stop at, the more you’ll fill up your card. When your card is complete, you can redeem it at Francois Payard Bakery West Houston for a FREE 12-piece box of macarons.
See? Hard work does pay off, so keep hustlin’.
