Alexa Chung is the It-est It Girl

Being an It Girl takes a lot of work. There’s traveling, partying, wearing gifted clothing, and mass attempts on being downright fabulous. It would be hard being Alexa Chung, said no one, nowhere. The British beauty air kisses Karl Lagerfeld’s cheeks regularly and sits front row at nearly every major fashion show.

She’s a chain-smoker and author of a book simply titled “It”. I think that needs no explaining as to why. Alexa is trotting behind personal favorite Chloe Sevigny on becoming the end all be all It Girl. See why, below.

5 Fashion Celeb Duos That Should Remake ‘The Simple Life’

Photo: Matteo Prandoni/BFAnyc.com

In 2007 the world lost a gem so rare that we are worried that nothing like it will see the light of day again. It was a television show that encompassed nearly everything that is nurturing and important, ‘The Simple Life’. Starring then best friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, the reality show brought laughs, tears, and WTFs. It may have never won an Emmy, but it did win a place in the history of pop-culture (and our hearts).

Seeing Paris fall off a horse and watching Nicole stuff a five year-old’s bra is something that can never be replicated… But if it was, we put together a list of fashion friends that could easily take the lead.

1. Georgia May Jagger and Cara Delevingne Neil-RasmusPhoto: Neil Rasmus/BFAnyc.com

As the story goes, both are extremely sought after models; Georgia’s dad is the front man of one of the worlds biggest rock bands, and both are blonde. Throw in cute accents and this show is hotter than a pop-tart fresh out of the toaster.

2. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Matteo-PrandoniPhoto: Matteo Prandoni/BFAnyc.com

Fashion’s favorite set of drape-wearing twins should seriously consider a career transition. For a duo that started out on the silver screen, it is only natural they get back to their roots and have another television hit. I can only imagine the faces they would give the piglets when dishing out the morning feed.

3. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez Billy-FarrellPhoto: Billy Farrell/BFAnyc.com

The team behind everyone’s favorite label Proenza Schouler are not only talented, but have looks that were basically made for TV. They’ve already starred in an episode of “The Day Before” that followed the pair’s work ethic and antics counting down the days before there fashion show. Once you dip your toes in the reality show pond, it’s hard to leave. So, Jack and Lazaro, use your PS1s to collect eggs from the coop.

4. Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevingne Joe-Schildhorn-2Photo: Joe Schildhorn/BFAnyc.com

You didn’t think we’d mention one Delevingne and leave the other out, did you? Alexa Chung wrote a book simply titled “It.” I believe it is time for “It” to be something a little more along the lines of primetime television. She and fashion BFF Poppy Delevingne basically have been Paris and Nicole just not with cameras following them around. It’s time for these British babes to ditch the gifted gowns and rock overalls on the cornfield.

5. Gigi Hadid and Kendall JennerJoe-SchildhornPhoto: Joe Schildhorn/BFAnyc.com

These California girls have taken over the fashion world like the black plague. Both donning bob-cuts at the Marc Jacobs show and enjoying everything that Paris had to offer this season. They also are no strangers to reality TV. Gigi’s mom Yolanda Foster stars in Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and Kendall, well, you know. Throw these beauties on a farm and it would look like a spread for CR Fashion Book, except funny.

“IT” Girl Herself Alexa Chung is Tommy Hilfiger’s New Guest Editor

Alexa Chung is like fashion magic. Every outfit she wears is catalogued in the minds of countless girls as inimitable, effortless, perfection. She’s put her stamp of approval, and even designed for a number of fashion collabs (eyeko eyeliner for that signature Chung cateye to some capsule collections with Madewell, to name a few, and she even has her own tome, which is literally called “IT,” perhaps a not-so-subtle nod to her own status.

Now, from October to January she’ll be putting her knack for styling to use as both model and guest editor for Tommy Hilfiger. Each month will mean the release of another miniature lookbook–and they look amazing. Of the collaboration, Chung told WWD, “To be embraced by such a behemoth of an American fashion brand is a huge honor.”

With her eye, the clothes look just as she wants them to–a navy tuxedo-esque one-piece is given the ultimate stamp of approval: “You know when you see another girl across the room at a party,” Chung says, “and think, ‘Wow, she nailed looking chic but without trying too hard.’ Well now you can too. Go forth and prosper.” So basically, Alexa herself. Still, we will gladly accept Chung’s help in dressing more like Chung.

Alexa Chung Direct & Stars in Superga’s Spring 2012 Campaign

Alexa Chung is on a roll. Between hosting Lifetime’s 24-Hour Catwalk, crashing websites with her in-demand Madewell collections, and making Mulberry a top global fashion retailer, she’s found the time to collaborate with super-cool footwear label, Superga.

For their spring/summer 2012 campaign, the UK brand gave the 28-year-old stylesetter full creative freedom to set the tone of the shoot and style their 2750 sneaker with looks of her choice. "We are really excited to have Alexa be part of our story," a Superga spokesperson tells the Telegraph. "She is one of the most influential style icons of our time."

The campaign is set to launch this Thursday. We’re guessing there will be lots of "schoolgirl meets grandma and a skanky older brother” looks involved.

Alexa Chung’s Debut Clothing Line May Include Sketches of Boys, Birds & Babies

When Numero Tokyo asked Alexa Chung if she would ever start her own clothing line, the British style savant said, "Yes, I’m definitely going to do that. I’m looking into it right now." Those two sentences were enough to make the blogosphere nearly spontaneously combust, given that her disheveled school girl look is coveted across the globe and her ridiculously successful capsule collections for Madewell crash websites. She also mentioned in the interview that she "sketches everything" herself, which prompted me to investigate her Instagram and pull some potential House of Chung renderings.

In addition to drawing hairy dudes (example #1 here), Chung likes drawing cute things, like angelic babies with big eyes and tiny ears.

Of course, Chung’s only non-human sketch is a smirking bird named "Egghead."

Alexa Chung at Moschino, Karlie Kloss at Juicy Couture: 6 FNO Events You Need to Know

Lest you forget, Fashion’s Night Out 2012 is next Thursday, September 6. To ensure that you’re not absurdly overwhelmed with options to the point that you resort to falling asleep in fetal position—with phone in hand!—at 9pm that night, I’ve rounded up the top six NYC events worth breaking out of hermit mode for. From Alexa Chung at Moschino to Havaianas and Opening Ceremony at Ace Hotel, dust off your comfiest of kicks and get to planning.

1. Moschino (401 W. 14th St): We hear that perpetual It girl (and burgeoning fashion designer) Alexa Chung is set to host and deejay Moschino’s FNO soirée at their Meatpacking store. Expect lots of Peter Pan collars and festive Belvedere libations. 6 to 9pm.

2. Ace Hotel (20 W. 29th St): In honor of Havaianas‘ 50th anniversary and Opening Ceremony‘s 10th anniversary, the two iconic brands are teaming up for a massive bash at—where else?—Ace Hotel. Ever the innovators, OC is sprucing up Havaianas’ original flip-flop style with limited edition pins. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Broome Street Academy. 6 to 8pm.

3. Juicy Couture (650 Fifth Ave): Instead of social media stalking one of the world’s top models in the privacy of your home, swing by Juicy Couture’s flagship to view "a carefully curated exhibit of Karlie Kloss’ Instagram photos," which will also serve as the backdrop for a digital photo booth. We’re told that customers who make a JC purchase from 6 to 7pm can have their photo taken with Kloss by Vogue‘s director of photography Ivan Shaw, so don’t lag. 6 to 9pm.

4. Balenciaga (542 W. 22nd St): Are you a crazy cat lady who loves Balenciaga? If so, this is the event for you. Swing by the French fashion house’s flagship to see Vogue creative director Grace Coddington‘s fiery hair in the flesh while you fawn over a capsule collection inspired by her cat, Pumpkin. 6 to 9pm.

5. Bergdorf Goodman (754 Fifth Ave): When in doubt during FNO, hit up Bergdorfs. The legendary department store always features free swag, sweet celebrity appearances and overall action worth your while. This year is particularly cool because BG is celebrating its 111th anniversary, so it’s sure to be chock-full with bells and whistles. In addition to a performance by The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn, there will be astrologers on hand to either make or break your night, as well as appearances by designers Thakoon Panichgul, Michael Bastian, Rachel Zoe and Lela Rose. 6 to 9pm.

6. Swarovski (499 Broadway): The luxury jeweler has tapped none other than artist and activist Yoko Ono to design two limited-edition crystal key cuts, which will be released exclusively at their SWAROVSKI CRYSTALLIZED™ store and online. Apparently, the $350 "Key to Open the Universe" piece unlocks "the door to the forest with its secrets, to the sky with its peacefulness, to the universe with its infinity, to a future with a promise for a better life," so you might want to pick one of those up. 6 to 9pm.

Honorable mentions: If live music is what you’re looking for, hit up M.A.C. Cosmetics (506 Broadway) to catch Azealia Banks or Manolo Blahnik (31 W. 54th St) for…wait for it…Cyndi Lauper

Alexa Chung Models for Maje, Maintains It Girl Reputation

Alexa Chung doesn’t know how to not be cool. The British model-turned-TV presenter’s effortless style and quirky charm won us over long before MTV’s short-lived series, It’s On With Alexa Chung, and long after her various defunct hosting efforts. There’s something about her delicately disheveled femininity that the blogosphere can’t get enough of, which is how she’s managed to crash Madewell’s site with her collections and turn Mulberry into the world’s top-selling fashion house

According to WWD, cult-favorite French label Maje is the latest label to jump on the Chung train. They’ve taped the perpetually Peter Pan-collared one to star in their fall 2012 advertising campaign, lensed by Glen Luchford at the Porte des Lilas subway station in Paris. As retro style is no doubt an It girl requisite, Maje made sure to infuse their shoot with some sixties black-and-white cinema flair.

French brands and Chung go hand-in-hand because although she’s a Londoner, she certainly has that je ne sais quoi akin to Parisian style icons Francoise Hardy, Jane Birkin, Lou Doillion and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Although she’s definitely one of Karl Lagerfeld’s front row darlings, it’s about time that she fronts a Chanel campaign, no?
