Here in NYC, we’re dealing with a spring that seems perfectly content to simply not exist–40 degrees and rainy–come on.
None of that for H&M though. The fashion powerhouse is 100% ready for summer and getting ready to launch their bikini-filled campaign starring Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly, Doutzen Kroes, and Adriana Lima.
To celebrate the campaign, they’re keeping things local, which for them means Swedish, with an exclusive track by Axwell /\ Ingrosso, who are set to debut their first album since parting ways with Swedish House Mafia this summer.

Watch for the video and song elements of the campaign to hit on April 30th, but in the meantime, start dreaming up your warmer weather getaways now with highlights from the summer collection, all of which will be available on April 30th!

You didn’t have to pry your way into the Boom Boom Room to go celebrity-hunting in the Meatpacking District last Thursday night. For a $30 ticket (which would get you just one drink at the Boom, by the way) you could have supported a fantastic cause, and gotten your fill of A-listers. Aerospace High Performance Center, the chic athletic club on 13th street, hosted its third annual Championships Fight for Fitness competition — proceeds go to the East Harlem School’s fitness program — with an impressive panel of celebrity judges including Hugh Jackman, Adriana Lima, Narciso Rodriguez, Q-tip and Harvey Keitel.
Perched on bleachers around a boxing ring, a crowd of excited gym members and their trendy kids watched the show; on another wall, Hugh Jackman and his kids watched, too, although we noticed eight-year-old Oscar Jackman focused more on Dad’s iPhone.
The competition was divided into two main events — jump rope and boxing — while contestants were judged on three official categories: swagger, getup and realism. Who better to critique one’s outfit than supermodel Adriana Lima, who left six-month-old daughter Valentina at home, in order to offer her expertise. The new mom looked like a teenager in a colorful sundress, with her hair pulled back, flashing smile after smile. Dispelling any rumor that high-fashion models are high maintenance, the Brazilian beauty took off her heels as she jumped around, flashing scorecards and kissing sweaty contestants on the cheek. “I’ve tried many different workouts,” says Adriana, “but the best exercise for me was boxing because it’s not boring, it challenges you, and every day you learn something new.”
Outfits aside, actors Hugh Jackman and Harvey Keitel determined which fighters looked more like Hulk Hogan than Muhammed Ali. Included among the scrappers were a handful of muscled women who took their turns sparring with club owner and fitness expert Michael Olajide. Jackman, a veteran boxer at Aerospace, has no qualms throwing punches with the weaker sex. “My wife comes here too,” says the actor, “That’s why I first came here. I thought, I’ve got to keep up with her or she’s going to kick my ass.” Man or woman, Jackman knows from experience how hard boxing can be. “It’s the most intense workout I know.”
Victoria Secret has announced it will add five fresh faces to its line-up of genetically superior mannequins this season. The models in question: Emanuela de Paula, Lindsay Ellingson, Candice Swanepoel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Chanel Iman. Iman is no doubt the most recognizable of the group, but having been added to the Victoria Secret roster gives the aforementioned models as good a chance as any to becoming household names as well (especially considering, according to Fashionologie, such contracts typically are signed for three years). Victoria’s Secret is gearing up to tape its much-anticipated annual runway show November 19.
With three of its catwalk’s most famous faces having just given birth, or just about to do so, the addition of some newbies isn’t surprising. Sitting on the sidelines this season will be Heidi Klum, who just gave birth three weeks ago; Adriana Lima, who is rapidly nearing her due date; and last but not least Karolina Kurkova, who welcomed her first child just last week. However, Klum for one will be in attendance, as she’ll be playing host. Also making an appearance: the winner of a countrywide search for a new Victoria’s Secret model that included bikini castings and Angel Boot Camp. Titillating video of the search here. As per usual, expect plenty of flesh and over-the-top lingerie loaded with feathers, lace, crystals, and maybe even some Christmas ornaments.
It was like a class trip all over again, except instead of lusting over the teacher’s monogrammed Louis Vuitton pochette, we were carrying them. Last night Louis Vuitton hosted an out-of-this-world soiree at the American Museum of Natural History’s Rose Center for Earth and Space to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the seminal lunar landing of 1969. Daniel Lalonde, president and CEO of Louis Vuitton North America, presided over the event with the help of NASA superstars Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, and Sally Ride.
The guest list was on the tamer side and included a very pregnant Adriana Lima and fellow angel Miranda Kerr, singer Estelle, the ever fashionable June Ambrose (whose dress of choice definitely warrants another season of Marc Jacobs metallics), and Bryant Gumbel. New York City society’s upper crust turned out with aplomb, giving aspiring “real housewives” their long-awaited chance to sport the Herve Leger dresses that have been fermenting in their closet (seriously I counted like 24 of them). And speaking of housewives, noticeably absent was New Jersey botoxed black sheep Danielle Staub, who’s been making some rather suspicious rounds about town lately. We secretly applaud the folks at Vuitton for keeping it classy.
The space-themed event helped launch LV’s newest core values advertising campaign, featuring the three legendary astronauts celebrating all forms of travel; patriotic shoppers to Vuitton’s Fifth Avenue Maison can experience a departure of their own from July 14-20 at the store’s festive exhibit of NASA photographs, vintage space-inspired toys, and astronomy photographs by French artist and photographer Jean Lariviere. Also on tap is a chance to order the Malle Mars, a trunk specially designed for space travel. Leave it to Louis to chic up the galaxy.
To further celebrate our celestial ventures, Louis Vuitton is making a donation to the Climate Project on all travel item purchases made from July 13-20. With such lofty ambitions behind the most influential monogram to leave its mark on Earth, the next logical step is obviously the iconic LV stamp on the lunar surface. Hey, the man on the moon needs something fabulous to wear.

Hey, this week isn’t half bad! First, yesterday, NYSE chatterboxes smiled all day from the trading floor, reporting … well, not totally bad news per se, while traders wandered around almost bored because the Dow wasn’t in a hellish free-fall. Today, we hear that frilly underthings company Victoria’s Secret is expanding. Yes, a silver lining my friends! According to reports, VS bought Lounge at Broadway and Houston to build a 24,000 square-foot flagship store, set to open in 2009.
While they already have a Soho shop at Broadway and Prince, the ambitious new project plans to double that size. (Lounge has shuttered and is scheduled to re-open in Miami.) Meanwhile, VS is sparing no glitz during this recession and have rolled out the world’s most expensive bra. The $5 million “Black Diamond Miracle Bra” comes with 3,900 precious gems, thousands of tiny black diamonds, 117 one-carat round diamonds, 34 rubies, and — in the photo above — the breasts of model Adriana Lima. Note: Purchase of bra does not guarantee access to breasts of Adriana Lima.
