1. Go see Emma Straub read for The How I Learned to Read series at Happy Ending: Straub is the author of the mini-book Fly-Over State and the forthcoming story collection Other People We Married. She’s bubbly and charming and also happens to be an excellent reader—Emma had the crowd in hysterics last month at Greenpoint’s Bar Matchless when she read a non-fiction piece on being a middle school hoochie. For a sense of her lovely personality, check out this interview, conducted by literary maestro Jason Diamond for his blog Volume 1 Brooklyn. She goes on at 8pm, so don’t be late.
2. Get your Head-bang on at Trash Bar: For the more adventurous among you, head over to Williamsburg’s Trash Bar for the return of Runny, Brooklyn’s loudest, rockingest, most genitalia-obsessed harcore band. Runny are fronted by singer/screamer Ken Shadford, a big man with a bigger voice and a penchant for wearing g-strings on stage. They’re most popular song is called “Turkey Baster Cocaine Enema.” Runny will be joined by Just us Here, Dirty Spiders, and The Whores. See them if you dare!
