Lindsay Lohan’s celebrity status will do nothing to keep her out of jail. The judge in her felony theft case, Keith Schwartz, made it clear that the only way he’ll accept a plea bargain from the actress is if she goes to jail. As he told her at a hearing today, “I don’t care that you’re Lindsay Lohan vs. John Doe or Jane Doe. That doesn’t affect me.” Lohan has until March 10 to decide whether she’ll take a plea bargain or potentially go to trial in front of yet another judge.
Lindsay’s felony theft charge stems from her stealing a $2500 necklace from a Venice, CA jewelry store last month. If she goes to trial and is convicted, she could face up to three years in state prison — which would bring her total time behind bars since 2007 up to three years, 14 days, and 84 minutes. TMZ reports that Lohan has already decided to go to trial (she maintains her innocence, claiming that the necklace was hers to borrow). What a trial that would be! Either a huge media blitz or a huge bore. What happened to Mean Girls-era Lindsay Lohan? The one who didn’t steal or stalk ex-lovers or have a terrible drug problem. That was the best kind.
