Last night, New York’s cultural and media cognoscenti gathered at the BlackBook Presents gallery in DUMBO, Brooklyn, to celebrate the opening of the debut NYC exhibition, titled Movement, by venerable L.A. artist ThankYouX (real name Ryan Wilson).
Influencers from the worlds of art, fashion, music and media were on hand, as New York got its first view of his most current abstract works. Having exhibited from Miami to London to Hong Kong, over the last decade ThankYouX’s work has been prized by the likes of Demi Moore, Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, and Sir Paul McCartney, who specifically commissioned a portrait from him.
“Super excited about the turn out and how the opening went,” Wilson enthused, “Feels good to have this body of work in a great space like BlackBook Presents. Evanly, David and the team all helped make this happen.”
Considering the event took place amidst a typical New York late-spring downpour, he remained resolutely philosophical about it. “I just want people to escape the insanity for a moment and take the art in.”
Movement will be on exhibit at BlackBook Presents through August 18.
