Rosie O’Donnell, Alice Walker Among Celebs Signing Anti-Trump Call for Resistance

In a full page ad in The New York Times published Wednesday, titled “No! In the Name of Humanity We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America,” made a call to action for anyone opposed to accepting Trump’s presidency as legitimate. The group cited that the president elect has lost the popular vote by almost 3 million, and asks “each and every one who opposes what this regime stands for, and what it will do, to take part in and actively build, this resistance and refusal.” They urge protests leading up to and during the inauguration on January 20, which will mark the beginning of Trump’s “illegitimate” presidency.

Among those celebrities who have signed their names with the group are Rosie O’Donnell, Debra Messing, Joe Dante, and Ed Asner. The group was begun by Bill Ayers, musician Ted Sirota, musician Arturo O’Farrill, and Cornel West. Others who’ve signed include Alice Walker, poet Saul Williams, director Charles Burnett, comedian Margaret Cho, playwright Eve Ensler, musician Wayne Kramer, director John Landis, actor Michael Shannon, musician Michelle Phillips, actor David Strathairn, and director David Zeiger.
