Prince’s Death Confirmed as an Opioid Overdose

Prince, 1985

After close speculation surrounding the cause of Prince’s sudden death on April 25, we finally have a confirmed answer: opioid overdose. As Vox highlights, the 57-year-old musician has become a statistic in America’s rising epidemic of opioid addiction, which contributed to more than 47,000 drug overdoses in 2014, alone.  The severity of Prince’s addiction is still unclear, though we do have reports that the “Purple Rain” singer attempted checking into drug abuse treatment, but couldn’t get an appointment before he died.
