We’ve always loved a good reinvention.
Padma Lakshmi had already cleared a massive hurdle, becoming the first Indian model to climb to the top of the fashion world in the early ’90s. She subsequently modeled for Versace, Armani, Cavalli and Ungaro, while also becoming a muse to the great Helmut Newton.
But a love of food led to appearances on Top Chef, and her own post-Millennium show Padma’s Passport. Four best-selling cookbooks later, the announcement has just come that she will be premiering her own show on Hulu this summer, Taste The Nation With Padma Lakshmi, which debuts June 19.
The ten unscripted episodes will follow her on an extended Stateside journey, taking in the indigenous and immigrant food cultures that have so decisively added to the rich fabric of culinary Americana. And via her particular charm and sensitivity, she will seek to uncover the relationship between food, history and humanity—with the goal of revealing new truths about what it means to be American in the 21st Century.
It may even make us miss Anthony Bourdain just a…tiny bit less.
