Last night, the news broke of Academy Award-winning composer James Horner’s tragic and sudden death while piloting a private plane. As one of the most exquisitely talented and prolific composers in the world, Horner created some of cinema’s most memorable movie scores over the last three decades. From his frequent collaborations with directors like James Cameron and Ron Howard to his work with filmmakers such as Terrence Malick and Alan J. Pakula, Horner was a composer of epic scores, and those that tugged on our hearts as much as they delighted us sonically. Best known for his original score for Cameron’s iconic Titanic, Horner’s music become synonymous with our tears.
“We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent,” said Sylvia Patrycja, Horner’s assistant. “He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road.”
