BlackBook Premiere: Provocative Toronto Duo Ice Cream’s Video For ‘Receiver’

We’ve gone on before about our love for the Montreal music scene. But our latest crush are actually from Toronto, the deliciously monikered and particularly alluring female synth-pop duo Ice Cream—née Carlyn Bezic and Amanda Crist.

Describing their sound as “molecular pop” (N.B. it will not be available as edible foam), their debut album, produced by Fucked Up’s Ben Cook and cloyingly titled Love Ice Cream, was released this past Friday. It harnesses the retro fabulousness of classic Moog synthesizers and nascent drum machines to create a sort of futuro-pop for a new generation of the black-clad and ennui-disposed.

Here we premiere the enigmatic, hyper-sensory video for “Receiver,” which stars Brook Lynn Hytes, Miss Continental 2014-2015. The track itself flaunts an incisive post-punk aesthetic, recalling the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen and Cabaret Voltaire.
