Billy Reid is once again partnering with the Newport Folk Festival for a MSL/NFF collection. The pieces will be sold online and in select Billy Reid stores.
The nonprofit music festival takes place in Newport, Rhode Island, preserving and celebrating American folk music. Beginning in 1959, the festival was a staple of the Civil Rights Movement and the venue where Bob Dylan first went electric in 1965.
In recent years, Billy Reid has contributed to the festival, sponsoring parties, performances, and screenings. The designer explained his love for the festival:
“We were invited guests several years ago and absolutely fell in love with the festival. It’s a little surreal. It takes place at Fort Adams State Park, which is a historic revolutionary war site surrounded by the sea, and you’re listening to some of the coolest independent music the world has to offer. Some of my favorite moments there are getting to connect with our friends in the music world, which we see as part of our extended community. We just really fell in love with the super laid back vibe and great people watching, which blends an east coast surf prep meets indie rock style.”
This year, the designer has released a collection that includes a t-shirt, ball cap, tote bag, and socks. It also features festival appropriate gear like a stadium cape and blanket.
Billy Reid locations in Austin and Nashville will celebrate the MSL/NFF collection. The Austin celebration takes place July 20 at 6PM and features a live performance by Erika Wennerstrom of the Heartless Bastards. The Nashville event will be July 21 at 6PM with a performance by Nikki Lane. To attend, RSVP.
