The Vaselines Set to Release ‘Sex With An X’

Late ’80s uber-influential and uber-indie band The Vaselines have announced that they’ll be releasing their first album in 20 years, titled Sex With An Ex, this December. The band, which formed in Scotland in 1986, was famously a favorite of Kurt Cobain (I know, I’m blowing your mind with this), who covered several of their songs, such as ‘Son of a Gun,’ ‘Molly’s Lips,’ and ‘Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam.’ The first single on the album is titled ‘I Hate the 80’s’ and is available for free download at their website. It’s both gentle and caustic—”It wasn’t all Duran Duran Duran Duran. You want the truth? This is it! I hate the ’80s ‘cause the ’80s is shit!”—and tuneful. Quality stuff from an elder indie act.
