Husband and wife duo Ola Frick and Carina Johansson Frick started making music together in 1997 in Malmö, Sweden. Their sound varies from Shoegaze vibes to unrefined, static-filled Electro Pop backed by dreamy soundscapes. Reinvigorated by Berlin’s underground dance scene, Moonbabies decided to take their music in an entirely different direction, and thus far, we’re loving the results.
“Pink Heart Mother,” their new release, sounds like a disco ball clashing against the dance floor as boisterous, 80s-esque synths and percussions glide under Carina’s suave voice. The song is actually told from the perspective of Ola’s mother, as she rebels against her circumstances as a mother, feeling isolated and trapped, in order to see the world instead. However, Ola adds that, “It’s also a song about keeping on with the struggle because you are a fighter. Someday you will find peace and reach your goals.”
