The Pop Pleasure of Betty Who’s ‘Runaways’

Up-and-coming pop chanteuse Betty Who has proven yet again why she’s one of the most promising names in the genre with the release of “Runaways”, a new track from her debut full length Take Me When You Go.

The song is instantly infectious, the kind that bears several repeats after only the first listen. While for a lesser talent this could serve as a lead single from an album, someone at Betty’s label RCA told me today that there currently aren’t plans for “Runaways” to receive the single treatment, but instead serve as a buzz track to get listeners excited for the October 7th release of Take Me.

If you don’t know her already, Betty Who is leading a pack of women on their way to becoming the next generation of pop stars. Her rise to stardom (which she’s smack dab in the middle of) has been a quick and organic one. Her debut single“Somebody Loves You” was featured in a proposal/flash mob video on YouTube that went viral, putting her signature brand of easy, hook-laden pop in front of millions.

Since then, she’s made waves around the world, selling out tours and releasing two EPs, both to universal critical acclaim. Most recently, she shared “Heartbreak Dream”, the actual lead single from her upcoming LP, which is shaping up to be one of the best pop debuts in some time.
