Deliciously dark and sultry trio The Peach Kings are here to invite a sexy step into your summer with their new track “Mojo Thunder.” A sound that walks, “a slack line between black leather and black velvet,” the LA-based band—comprised of Paige Wood, Steven Dies, and Edward Shiers—premiered their new EP Mojo Thunder back in June, and today, we’re pleased to premiere the video for the record’s title track—a NSFW psychedelic, animated piece of art that echoes the song’s smokey cool otherworldly sex appeal. Inspired by everything from  from The Creature From the Black Lagoon to the hazy barn in Dirty Dancing, The Peach Kings told us that this is, “one of the earliest songs that we wrote…When we used to play it live, we would do a long minor blues intro that was a kind of ode to Louisiana, where Paige’s mother grew up. So the song was definitely imbued with the bayou from the beginning.”

And when it came to creating the right video for “Mojo Thunder,” The Peach Kings found a great simpatico with Ataboy, a New York-based design-driven production studio. With directors Kris Merc and Benjy Brooke at the helm, the black-and-white hypnotic video of vice and voodoo drew on “late eighties, early nineties noir – Bruce Timm’s Batman, Abuli/Bernet’s Torpedo, Sin City, and also by Michael Deforge and Max Fleischer’s weirdest Bimbo/Betty/Koko work,” to give it life. “It really opened up the possibilities of what we could do, since the medium really lends itself to open-ended nature of the lyrics,” said The Peach Kings.

Going even deeper into their concept, they explained that:

“We interpret the name ‘mojo thunder’ to be any number of things from a narcotic, to a dance move, to a shamanistic experience, so it was really fun to play with these ideas when we were recording. For instance, we made a conscious decision to do the vocals in a slightly intoxicated manner to go along with some of the lyrics of the song, we also kept the groove really loose and gritty to get that languidness we were seeking…Another image from the lyrics is the idea of the medicine woman who is making the ‘mojo thunder.’ She’s probably sexy.”
