Odd Future’s MellowHype Release New Song, ’45’

Behind Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, MellowHype are Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s most dependable musical act, always good for spaced-out instrumentals and a mean flow. They’ve released a new song, "45," in anticipation of a new album, Numbers. You can listen to it here, via Pitchfork. It sounds like a MellowHype track, basically, with sparse piano and sax arrangements with spooky drums popping throughout, while rapper Hodgy Beats gets ornery about something or other.

Odd Future blew up and more in 2011, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can maintain momentum as the new year gets started. "Maturation" usually doesn’t lend itself well to keeping up the blog hype, but as long as Tyler continues to get arrested, they’ll probably be fine. You might even be able to avoid all the think pieces, at least for a little while.

Below, watch the video for MellowHype’s "64," in case you missed it.
