Matthew McConaughey Reprises ‘Dazed and Confused’ Role in Butch Walker Music Video

It’s been almost twenty years since Matthew McConaughey came of Hollywood age playing Danny Wooderson in Dazed and Confused, but that’s no reason not to return. In a music video for Butch Walker’s "Synthesizers," he reprises the Wooderson role for a stroll down memory lane, a collaboration that seems as random as the sight of the perennial slacker trying to cut it in a modern club. ”If you love Dazed and you loved Wooderson, you’ll see this and you’ll probably get the tickle box pretty quick,” McConaughey told EW. Sometimes, it’s as simple as that.

Wearing a shaggy wig and a slight paunch, McConaughey strolls through the club with a pair of women snapping along to the beat behind him. The song and video go a lot of places, starting sad and contemplative before morphing into a goofy horn-laden dance number. (There’s an LMFAO impersonator shimmying in one of the shots.) The video could be a commentary on the troubles of continuing one’s club culture while entering middle age, or it could just be a cool video gag. Everyone wants to feel young again, even if they’re millionaire movie stars too beautiful for God’s Earth. (clutches embroidered Sahara pillow.)
