Remember how Jack White and Stephen Colbert composed an off-the-cuff yogurt commercial jingle together? The duo are also coming out with a single, which they’ll sell today at the Lot on Tap, under the High Line. This is because sometimes, the world of pop culture attains absolute perfection. Today is one of those days, so let’s enjoy it.
Last night, Colbert performed the song on his show, handling vocals in a collaboration with White protegés The Black Belles. “Charlene II (I’m Over You)” is a grungy garage-sounding breakup song, its message reinforced by Colbert’s ad-libbing (“And by the way: who is Alan?”).
It’s not bad! I almost prefer Colbert’s vocals over the Black Belles’ singer. If you can get away from work this morning, Colbert and White will be at The Lot selling the single on vinyl at 11 a.m. If you can’t make it, you can order the single here.
