Although “Black Widow” is at its peak, many of us still can’t get “Fancy” out of our heads—but that doesn’t mean Iggy is taking any time off from recording new music. Today she dropped “Iggy SZN” (pronounced “season”), the first track to emerge from the upcoming re-release of her album The New Classic.
Produced by The Invisible Men—who also worked with Iggy on “Work” and “Fancy”—the song sees the controversial rapper serving up more of her signature blend of electro-pop beats and smart, whiplash-inducing hip-hop verses. The simple handclaps and sharp electronic music set the stage for Iggy to let loose, showing that while she does often feature guests on her tracks, she can pull off a banger all by herself.
Thankfully, she doesn’t forget her current place in pop culture, as the rapped lyrics of “Iggy SZN” are filled with hooks, and the song instantly gets stuck in your head. Iggy is typically boastful, claiming “if I told you what I’m worth, you would throw up” and telling all the other women out there to “simma down bitch, it’s Iggy season.”
Azalea is preparing a re-release of her debut full length The New Classic, due in stores on November 24th, just in time for the holiday season. Reclassified will feature five new tracks, including “Iggy SZN” and “Beg For It”, the lead single from the new collection, which Iggy and featured artist MØ will debut on Saturday Night Live this coming weekend.
