Everyone is freaking out because Frank Ocean launched a mysterious live stream on his Boys Don’t Cry website this week, and now the New York Times reports from an exclusive, anonymous source that the R&B singer’s first album in four years is due for release this Friday through Apple Music.
We’ve known the title of Ocean’s new record, Boys Don’t Cry, for years now, and have been continuously disappointed at delays in the album’s release. According to the Times secret source, Ocean’s latest will be available only on Apple Music for two weeks before becoming streamable on other platforms.
Channel Orange, Ocean’s 2012 debut, earned him six Grammy noms and a win and catapulted him to the forefront of the minds of critics and fans alike. Since then, he’s appeared as a guest artist on tracks from artists including Kanye West, as well as helping James Blake to pen his latest release.
Ocean, openly bisexual, recently composed a touching letter to the victims of the Orlando massacre, writing: “So we say pride and we express love for who and what we are. Because who else will in earnest?”
If the Times source is correct, our headphones are soon to be blasting a different tune. And we’re probably going to have to finally cave and sign up for Apple Music. Although isn’t there a free trial option we can use for two weeks and then back out of ?
