Bruce Springsteen and Brian Fallon: ‘No Surrender’

Clips from Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming London Calling: Live in Hyde Park DVD have started leaking, including a fantastic performance of ‘Racing in the Street‘ that’s up on Rolling Stone’s website. Then there’s this one, which is a real doozy: The Gaslight Anthem’s lead singer Brian Fallon joins Bruce for a rousing rendition of ‘No Surrender,’ off of The Boss’s classic Born in the U.S.A. album. Fallon’s scratchy, earthy vocals are often compared to Springsteen’s, so there’s something special about hearing them duet on this signature tune.

Also, it’s just nice to see the reverence Fallon clearly has for Bruce. Although he fronts a hot, up-and-coming band and has performed all over the U.S., Fallon still seems jittery at getting the chance to appear on stage with his hero. At 60, Bruce is still as spry and on-point as ever, but he can’t have too many years of touring left in him. Might he be passing the torch?
