Anybody out there wish rock bands would just play…rock? More than a decade after the riff-heavy heyday of The Strokes, The Vines, The White Stripes, The Hives, and many other bands that put the word “the” before a plural noun, we may be ready for another bout of ripping revivalism. “Caiti,” the newest track from savage four-piece Born Cages, certainly makes that argument—we’re delighted to premiere it here and now.
A whiplash tempo and sassy guitar counterpoint launch this one right out of the gate, inviting you to twist and bop, or get a mosh pit going, whichever is more your speed. “Despite your disease / You got me down on my knees,” they announce in a typical couplet before hitting a classic shout-along line: “I know you like it! / I know you really like it!” And you know what? We do. Hang on for that hair-metal solo toward the end (no wonder they opened for Guns N’ Roses).
“Caiti” features on The Sidelines EP, out June 18th on Razor & Tie, but we know you’d probably rather see Born Cages slay live—easily done if you live anywhere in New York, as that’s where they’re touring these days:
