H.R Giger, Ridley Scott and crew inspect model during production for Alien (1979)
H.R. Giger, the iconic Swiss design visionary responsible for the surreal and erotic bio-mechanical aesthetic made famous by the Alien movies, passed away yesterday in Zurich at the age of 74. In the same vein as author Stanilaw Lem (Polish author of “Solaris”), he envisioned the future as something different than little green men in shiny space ships, something darker, more mysterious — simultaneously savage and sexual. Our fantasies and nightmares haven’t been the same since.
Here we recount a few of our favorite H.R. Giger moments.
