Designing a poster for a film is a fine art. You really shouldn’t judge a film by its artwork, but let’s be honest, you probably will. And with the release of six new posters for Andrew Dominik’s new crime thriller, Killing Them Softly, it seems the Weinstein Company really got it right this time. Adaptated from the 1974 novel, Cogan’s Trade by George V. Higgins, the New Orleans-set film tells the story of professional enforcer Jackie Cogan who investigates a heist that occurs during a high stakes, mob-protected poker game. The film premiered at Cannes in May to critical praise and looks to, “focus on the discoloured, tedious side of this dark society in which tough guys and exhausted organisers of crime jostle each other around,” adding that, “Andrew Dominik does the exact opposite to The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, which had rhythm and a poetic, nearly melancholic, style.”
Out on November 30th–settling itself in prime award season contention–Killing Them Softly stars Brad Pitt as Cogan, with a well-rounded cast of heavy-hitters from James Gandolfini and Ray Liotta to Sam Shepard and Scoot McNairy. Feast your eyes on the six new posters that are sure to amp up anticipation for the film.
