Green Day is heading to Broadway. Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is returning to the public eye with a clothing line called Pretty Green. And, according to Jessica Stam on MTV’s recent House of Style re-launch, a good flannel shirt is a must-have for every girl’s closet this season. Boyfriend jeans are the new skinny. Not to mention at Nylon magazine’s 10th anniversary party Tuesday, the majority of the styles being showcased by the young, easy-on-the-eyes downtown crowd could have surfaced the same year Nylon launched: 1999. The icing on the sartorial cake is Elle magazine’s fashion spread in its April issue, entitled “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” which features young Hollywood starlets in grungetastic threads.
What’s also interesting is that the editorial spread marks model Erin Wasson’s first-ever styling gig for a major US magazine. She’s done so before with the likes of Comme des Garcons for H&M within the pages of Japanese Vogue. But, does this mean total crossover to designing (Wasson’s well-received collaboration with RVCA just hit store racks) and styling are imminent? Perhaps. But if her work in Elle and with RVCA is any indication, it looks like Wasson it up to the task.
