Take a dash of Blade Runner and sprinkle it with equal parts Matrix and The Dark Crystal (talk about a throwback) and you’ll have Chanel’s fall/winter 2012 collection. Following his couture show on an airplane, Karl Lagerfeld decided to take his girls one step further and transport them to a new galaxy—one where crystals grow like trees.
There were metallic accents, feathers, geometric details and reflectors. There were new tweed suits. There were belted wide-shouldered trench coats and velvet leggings. There were accessories that could double as weapons, as could the eyebrows.
While the models’ sharp crystal-embellished brows by Maison Lesage were a major hit at the show, the most talked about moment thus far is when a three-year-old boy walked the runway, complete with his own mini Chanel crossbody. Perhaps it’s Lagerfeld’s way of poking fun at the underage model dispute.
