Net-a-Porter is arguably one of the most successful online retail ventures in history. Now the high-fashion virtual boutique is branching out with a discount website slated to launch net month, says Drapers. Dubbed theOutnet.com (as in online outlet), the site “will stock the likes of Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Hervé Leger, Alberta Ferretti, Chloé and Oscar de la Renta, with average discounts of between 40% and 60%.” Given the recession, the launch couldn’t be better timed.
In addition to big-name fashion houses, theOutnet.com will stock smaller brands like Temperley London. Meaning not only will consumers be able to score designer duds at discounted prices without trekking to said designers’ off-the-beaten path outlet operations, they’ll have a chance to land discounted frocks from designers not large enough to have their own outlet. This, combined with Topshop’s stateside opening in SoHo next month, is going to make for a very exciting April.
