David Fincher’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo isn’t due out for another few months, and yet people are already comparing the film’s forthcoming pandemonium to Harry Potter and Twilight. While Stieg Larsson’s award-winning page-turner is reason enough to stir fanfare, it’s the striking image of actress Rooney Mara as the story’s anti-heroine that has everyone hooked. With the help of the movie’s costume designer, Trish Summerville, H&M is bringing Lisbeth Salander’s dark, disheveled, and disturbed style to the masses.
The Swede connection (H&M is a Swedish retailer and TGWTDT is set in Sweden) is likely why the fast-fashion giant selected it as their first capsule collection with a film. While these photos of Mara in character prove that channeling Salander’s look to a T may cause unwanted stares, H&M’s collaboration with Summerville provides a watered-down version for everyday wear.
The 30-piece collection of leather jackets, pants, ripped denim, and hoodies in moody shades will debut in a dedicated pop-up shop at Parisian concept retailer Colette on November 38 and will arrive at H&M stores worldwide on December 14.
