With the latest issue of her GOOP newsletter, Gwyneth Paltrow is taking the recession-induced trend of shopping one’s closet to heart. “Having had a good look through the spring collections, I don’t think it’s necessary to make any sweeping changes,” Paltrow writes. In five different looks, Paltrow highlights tried and true styles that are very much of the moment this season — jumpsuit, ethnic prints, and slouchy trousers included. Also, in hopes of benefiting a good cause (The Robin Hood Foundation in NYC, where profits from sales will go) and simultaneously doing some much-needed spring cleaning, the actress is auctioning off some of her favorite fashions from her own closet on eBay.
Especially of note are the temporarily low prices at which most frocks (which are mostly size 4 and 6), shoes (mostly sized 8.5-9), and accessories are marked. While designer shoes range from $90-$212 (Proenza Schouler platforms, Roger Vivier boots), her belts are under $2 and sunglasses are under $30. Though with a handful of days still left to go on a number of the auctions, it remains to be seen whether any of the items sold actually leave the block as bona fide steals. At least buyers know their money is going to a good place, and of course they get to wear Gwyneth’s clothes.
