In just a few years, Anna Wintour has undergone quite the attitude adjustment regarding her perspective on the blogosphere. While at one time so bothered by the word “blog” she tried to come up with a substitute, Wintour has done a 180. In Vogue’s next issue, she’ll highlight seven different fashion bloggers. Word first came when Bryanboy tweeted he was in town for the shoot; then the names of Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil and Todd Selby of The Selby were added onto the confirmed list. (None of these three are necessarily a surprise, given Bryanboy’s prominence within the industry — sitting front row at D&G and having a Marc Jacobs bag named after him — while Tommy Ton contributes to Style.com.) But who are the unnamed four?
Tavi seems pretty much guaranteed. The tween blogger hosts a video on Style.com in which she previews Rodarte’s Target line and their related photo shoot on the plains of North Dakota. Also a very likely candidate: Hanneli Mustaparta — the Norwegian-born former model who lives in NYC and whose street-style photo blog has garnered the respect of many within the industry. Beyond that it’s very likely that photo bloggers Scott “The Sartorialist” Schuman and his gf Garance Dore are the other two, as each has been both featured on and contributed to Vogue quite a bit. Susie Bubble of Style Bubble and Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast are potential wild cards as well, but we’ll have to wait another few weeks until the full cast of bloggers is revealed. Regardless, it marks quite a revelation in terms of Wintour and Vogue’s acceptance of the fashion blogging community as a whole. Besides, if you can’t beat ’em, might as well join ’em.
