For Raf Simons’ Pitti Uomo presentation this week, the Dior alumnus collaborated with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, featuring provocative prints by the New York S&M photographer throughout his spring ’17 collection. Having spent days filing through Mapplethorpe’s archives from the ’70s and ’80s, Simons said he was struck by its “emotional impact” and wanted to bring the art to new generations.
His latest collection was appropriately challenging and referential, keeping in line with Simons’ moody fall ’16, Twin Peaks-inspired range. Now, the designer has released a campaign for that collection, starring his muse Luca Lemaire. Nightmarish and framed by ominous clouds, the photo series was photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo—two of Simons’ longtime friends and collaborators.
